As promised!
Started out as a doodle in Astronomy class, imagining the Akaku with a visor. I liked the idea, and I've never liked the real Akaku Phantoka (though it -would- be acceptable if it only had the scope on the right side), so I decided to go with the concept and translate the rounded, organic features of the Akaku Nuva into the more angular, geometric style of the more recent masks. Hmph. I hate it when these unexpectedly long delays happen between blog entries. (and I'm also not a fan of how they seem to be becoming a trend.)
So, life update!
My semester has been busy so far. That's what comes of taking five full courses, I guess, but wow there's a big difference between that and the normal 4/4.5 I had last semester. Which is part of the reason for the lack of updates. I just haven't had -time- to work on much of anything not school-related.
But that should change
Apparently, Six and I are twins when he lets his hair grow out. Or we would be, if he hadn't gotten it cut two days ago...

As of last night, I am now a member of an a cappella group! (One of the many that Vassar has.) We sing Disney songs. Oh yeah. We're awesome like that.
I spent last week preparing for the audition, which was on Saturday, and at which my best friend and I sang A Whole New World from Aladdin as a duet. Then we were both called back, and the next day at callbacks they had me learn a harmony and then gave me a bit of "I Can Go the Distance" from Hercules to sing on my own. And I found that evening

You guys should all go check it out! (that's a link up there, by the way) I haven't read anywhere near everything, but there are quite a few awesome authors in this collection and if they're anything like me they worked really hard on what's in there. I've also added my own piece, finally; it's down at the bottom of the list and I personally am very proud of the result, as it's an idea that's been sitting in my head for possibly years now.

Interestingly, these (plus Vorox) are the sets from last year that come with the most recolored pieces. Which is a self-proclaimed trend in my taste, but it's interesting to see that Lego apparently feels similarly, by making these ones front-and-center in The Legend Reborn. Hmm.

My Ackar arrived yesterday afternoon, I built him this morning, and I have to say he is the prettiest set I have set eyes upon in a long time.
Seriously. Not only is he BRIGHT RED and ORANGE, but his color layering is, for once in a Bionicle set, truly perfect. I mean, seriously. I love how bright and fiery he is. If I hadn't been quite so tired when I was building him (right after I woke up), I would probably have squeed when his pieces rolled out of the canister. And even so, I was still gr
It was a pretty good Christmas, all around. Fewer presents (partly because my parents and I didn't get each other anything), but we got to spend more time with our relatives, since timing just worked out better all around this year. Which was nice, because past years' Christmas Eve festivities have sometimes wound up kinda rushed, and, fondly, they weren't this time.

So. Crystal. I've seen the idea for it as an element come up in quite a few places, and if it were up to me (and apparently to quite a few others), I'd have canonized Crystal as an element rather than Psionics. If we're sticking with Lego's ridiculous one-gender-per-tribe scheme, it would be female. Because goodness knows Bionicle needs more female elements.

So at this point I'm rather out of the loop when it comes to less-than-major storyline developments (among them anything at all from the serials). Seriously. I think his are the best photos of Bionicle sets that I've ever seen anyone take. He makes star!Takanuva go from a boring set to looking amazing. I might just have to buy him now because of how cool DV made him look. (He was on the 'meh' list before, but gods, DV threw him into the 'yes' column.)

This is what I've spent half my time not studying/doing end-of-semester assignments doing lately, and some time when I really should have been working on those.

As I said last entry, I think star!Vezok's set is extremely boring and disappointing for a supposed "Star," and that Hahli would be both much more deserving of a place in the last Bionicle sets ever, and would also look a whole lot more interesting.

An interesting story: the pictures of the Stars came out on a day that I was completely twitterpated over a certain someone, so the combination of those emotions and the surprise/confusion of the stars was rather ridiculous. It was something to the effect of "What the heck – wha – I need my life to pause for a little so I can properly react to and judge these sets without having a whole bunch of completely separate, intense emotions going on at the same time" It was bad.

In several senses of the word. The winter decorations are back up, I'm back here on BZP... and an awful lot of things have happened since I last blogged here.
My life has been extraordinarily busy for the past month. I've had a research paper, several other papers, massive amounts of homework, an all-weekend camping trip with my earth science class (in 30ºF weather). I bought three scarves. I've spent more than a couple nights staying up until 5 AM talking about, in a word, love. I could go i
Right now, I'm sitting at home on my October break. I can't quite believe it's been seven weeks since I started college. And it feels really strange being home.
But I guess I should start with the past week first. Most significantly: last Sunday I was in Washington, D.C. for the National Equality March. It was rather epic. Definitely an unforgettable time, and I even finally got a rainbow flag! I also saw Lady Gaga in person. Which was rather amazing. And I also met up with one of my friends
Considering how much I hated it when I first walked in, I've actually grown fond of my room now. I still wouldn't mind if it were shaped differently (it's really long; most peoples' are more square) and if there were more room to sit down/hang out/do whatever, but it's not terrible any more.
Also, an update since last entry: I am now the official graphic designer for QCVC! (the Queer Coalition of Vassar College) I'm very happy about this. I will make things -fabulous-.

Gosh, where should I even begin?
I think the simplest way of saying it is this: I love my life. I'm sorry if that sounds smug or anything, but it's true – I love being here, I love my classes, I love my new friends. I do miss my friends back in Rochester, but I'm still in touch with them and I get to see them in a few weeks, so that's all good. I also miss MOCing, but that's another story.
Classes... what can I say but that they're awesome? Twice now I've had 70+ lines of Latin and/or Gree
Because I'm not making a real topic for this until I get back home (in other words, the end of October) and can tweak and perfect her. Since I had to finish her and send her off a bit more rushed than I had wanted to to get her to Brickfair in time. There's some stuff on her legs and shoulders I'd like to make better.
But, hey, I have this photo of her right here that works fabulously as an entry picture, so I figured, why the heck wouldn't I enter her into BBCC55?

Strakk or Gelu?
I have decided at this point to get Kiina and Ackar, and I've always wanted one out of the two Ice Glatoriana, but certainly not both. They're way too similar to make both of them worth it. But I do like bits and pieces of each. Strakk's fantastic color scheme and shoulders/head; Gelu's armor and swords and helmet and snowflake shoulders... (don't have Metus)
Once they go on sale or something.
