Now I Have Four Ways To Punch You In The Face

So for all the missteps of the Lego Ninjago Movie, it did have a couple of decent songs to go with it. I was listening to the album, and the song "Heroes" is a pretty decent pop song. It's not as addictively catchy as "Everything is Awesome" but enjoyable. "Operation New Me" and "Found My Place" are also good, but I don't like "Dance of Doom." The instrumental bits are also nice, but they're not quite as iconic as those from The Lego Movie. There's an Asian / action movie vibe, but it's not supe

Ninja Concede

A true Ninja knows when to admit defeat, and alas I must too.   The Lego Ninjago Movie was kinda meh.   There, I said it.   I mean, it was a good movie and stuff, but it is definitely the lesser of the three Lego movies. In fact, there were some of the TV show seasons that I think would outshine it in terms of story and characters. (Tournament of Elements and Skybound, to be precise.) I thought there was potential that it didn't quite live up to, so yes I was kind of disappointed.   So what foll

Pre Ninja

So the Ninjago movie comes out this week... or rather, tomorrow. I had been planning to see it Thursday night, only to check and see that, actually, they don't have any showings for it Thursday. And the showings on Friday are either too early in the day (AKA when I'm at work) or too late (AKA going to bed cause I have work on Saturday too.) So alas, I won't be able to catch the movie until Saturday afternoon, making me jealous of everyone who got a chance to see it early.   Anyway, despite my ea

Elves on Netflix

So I just watched the Lego Elves series on Netflix. I've seen the previous two seasons (episodes, they didn't really last that long) and while it was a decent story, the animation always seems a bit off, and the voice cast wasn't always the best. Well, the voice cast stayed the same for the most part, but either they got better or I just got used to it. The animation, however, is way better; you can definitely feel the Voltron / Avatar vibe to it. I was expecting the elemental uses to be a bit m

Ninjago Movie Theory

Based on the promotional material, we've seen a lot of human Jackie Chan making ninja jokes.   So my theory is that the LEGO Ninjago Movie is merely Jackie Chan playing with his Lego collection and making up a story for it.

Eclipse On Monday

And you know what that means.   People will spontaneously start getting super powers.     I'd like super speed, but I'd be cool with shape shifting too.   So if you're planning to do anything really dramatic on Monday, make sure to time it with the eclipse so you'll have a really great backstory explanation for your developed mutations.

Ninjago Fig Collection

I may like collecting these figs a little too much.   So these are most of the figs from 2011's introduction of the theme through 2017's Hands of Time series. It's fairly complete, with a few tweaks, mostly in terms of Nya's row. I mean, I could display these on my various Ninjago buildings, but I like this setup better.   My favorite costume design is definitely the Skybound costumes. I also like the Kimono costumes, the Elemental Tournament (full color) costumes, and the pure energy Airjitzu c

I Might Have Gone A Bit Overboard...

So after building a mini Boba Fett, I started to wonder if I could scale any other classic characters down... and then I went a little crazy until I pretty much ran out of the essential pieces to make any more.   (From left to right, back to front) Tarkin, Stormtrooper, Greedo, Oola, Vader, Lando, Chewbacca \ C3P0, Boba Fett, Luke, Han, R2D2, Leia, Slave Leia.   The body dimensions are 3x3x4, comprised of mainly technic, although some of them have custom builds. The arms and legs all use the sho

Boba Fett and Slave I

BBC Topic!   Look at me, I made a MOC!   Since the CCBS characters came out, I've been wanting to build a to-scale ship for some of them. Lego's finally doing it with the speeder bike this summer, but that's a pretty small vehicle; I want a huge TIE Fighter and a massive XWing piloted by Vader and Poe, or something like that. The idea is doable, but a bit out of my price range at the moment.   When this contest rolled around, I thought it would be a good opportunity to do this scaled down. My fi

Lego Moana

So I spent 8+ hours yesterday trying to sort my loose Lego pieces post-convention, and I decided to play the new Moana movie in the background. And then thus I was inspired to write this post.   I don't think it was very apparent (because I wasn't blogging much) but I really liked the movie after I saw it last year. I had been working on one of my own stories that involved the Hawaiian goddess Madam Pele, and I was curious to see if she was references in the new movie. (She wasn't, I think they

Review 41184: Aira’s Airship and the Amulet Chase

I’ve been sick for the last couple of days, but the highlight has been getting in a Lego order and putting together some of the sets I’ve had sitting around for a while. The new Ninjago stuff has been fun, and the Nexo Knight year 2 sets aren’t too bad either. The BickHeadz are pretty meh outside of being parts packs. But although I was expecting to like the new Elves airship, it still turned out to exceed my expectations.     The set comes with three figs; Aira, Emily, and a goblin. The goblin

You Have Failed This City

You have failed this city. by Jason, on Flickr   Lookie at me, I made a Bionicle MOC! It's been a while.   So this will fit with the BZPower colab of Super Hero characters, and I got it finished in time for BricksCascade next month. The system to technic ratio would probably put it over the limit for any BBC contests, but that's not an issue at conventions. Plus, the simple building façade makes use of most of my dark red masonry bricks, so yay that.

Hey Look I Posted A Story!

Setting expectations for 100+ views (not counting my own) before I finish posting all the chapter. Yay for setting low expectations!   So I just posted a new epic, A Shadow's Contrivance (review topic). It's a sequel to my story Kulagi's Kanoka, featuring the same Onu-Matoran Kanoka Maker, but this time he and his friends are in the middle of the Toa and Dark Hunter war in Metru Nui.   I wrote the original story for these characters in 2006, and posted in 2007. Sometime later, I started writing

14 Years

That's how long I've been on BZPower now. I can't think of anything significant about 14 years... although I guess this does mean I've been on BZPower for about half my life. Yay. (That spinny mask of water should appear any time now...)   In other news, I was gonna mail out some prizes the other day... then the region I live in got hit with the worst snow storm in 30 years. Sooooo... yeah, maybe later.

A March Conundrum

They're doing a local showing of the new Sword Art Online movie in Portland, and I'm interested. But it also happens to be on the first day of BricksCascade.   Decisions decisions...

WIP Art

This is for a story project I've been working on on-and-off since at least 2015. The writing is almost done, but I always meant to include some artwork for it, so finally got that bit started today. I'm somewhat happy with how the gradients turned out.   Eventually I'll get around to posting it on BZP. I'm proud of it, but I doubt it'll get any views, given the levels of activity on this site nowadays.

Last Blog Entry for 2016 (for me anyway)

Well, so I really just kinda stopped blogging this summer. I mean, I've totally been lurking on BZPower this whole time (and played in the occasional mafia game) but I haven't really posted all that much. Primarily I've been crazy busy with work this year (between having my weekend position move from 3 people to 1 person with an increase in actual work, and having almost all our workflows change. Like seriously! ). But I've been busy with other things, like getting up to level 14 in Ingress

Really?

Really? America... just really. Really??   On the other hand, the local initiative to ban the sale of items made from rare animals passed. I mean, I'm kind of disappointed that it wasn't already a thing, but it's official now. Stop killing Rhinos, kay.

20 Questions G2 Edition

Let's play 20 Questions! I think you should know the basic rules; I'm thinking of something Bionicle related, and you ask questions to help narrow it down! Here are some of the more detailed rules:   1: The questions can only be yes or no questions. So "Is this your first blog post since July?" works but "Why haven't you been more active?" doesn't. (The answers are "Yes" and "Work.")   2: There can only be ONE question per post, and no double posting.   3: I will edit my answer into every body's

Onua Uniters Mosaic Update

That's five pieces down. Unfortunately, although I have parts to spare... I don't have enough of them to do an emergency baseplate, so I hope the other contributors can make it happen. (Because if they don't... well the pieces I have are all on the edges, and really don't form a coherent picture at all.)   Black Six: Piece 3 danny316p: Piece 4 Valendale: Piece 5   I guess I do have a lot of extra medium lavender, in case someone needs help with that color.   Can't wait to see it come together at

Onua Uniters Collaborative Mosaic

UPDATE: The only unclaimed piece is #6. I'm 90% confident I can make it if need be, so I'll be working on it this weekend. Next week, I'll try contacting all the participants to confirm if their pieces will be ready in time. (Unfortunately, I've been doing the corners, so if we're missing others, I can't just make a smaller block out of what I have.)     ~~  ~~   ~~ Sections: [01][02][03] [04][05][06] [07][08][09]   Piece 1: Xccj Piece 2: Xccj Piece 3: Black Six Piece 4: danny316p Piece 5: Va

Bionicle Window Decals?

How can I make this happen??   I've seen other pop culture decals on cars and I'm thinking I would like to have the original Kanohi on the back of mine. But how easy / difficult is it to get something like that printed? (And not bumper stickers... window decals are easy to move around if need be.)   Also kinda surprised I didn't blog at all in April or May. I mean, I've been a'lurkin' but just haven't posted stuff I guess. Been busy with life and work mostly work.   And, since I guess I haven't

Ingress

So I guess I've been fairly inactive. I can blame a bunch of it on work, but also that some of my free time has been going elsewhere, specifically into this game called Ingress.   My roommate is a fan of the game. (Like, y'know how I'm obsessed with Lego. He's at that kind of obsession level with this game.) It's a game on your phone where you go around and "hack" these "portals" that are tied to specific locations, usually pieces of art or something. It's an excuse to travel around and go on lo
