Review 70620: Ninjago City - Level 2 A

Instead of finishing all of level 2, the first half had so much detail that I'm just going to do that part now.     This involved bags seven thru ten, and makes the seafood restaurant, the comic shop, the ATM, an extension of the elevator, and an elevated sidewalk. There's another half level that sits on top of this that is technically Level 2, but there's still a lot going on here.   The restaurant is the biggest draw, and come with a small cooking area and a seating area. What throws me off t

Skull Scorpio Draft?

Proposed idea for BrickCon?   Skull Scorpio doesn't have the most intriguing build, but he has some nice pieces, plus the infected mask of stone. So what if we drafted that set. Everybody keeps the mask(s?) but we split out the other pieces? (I mean, I think he has the most parts of the medium sized Skull Villians.) Thoughts?   Also, I apparently generated more dicussion with my selection of the thumbnail pict than the rest of my review... so yay? I dunno if that is good or bad.

October Double VIP Points

Every year, Lego has a promotion in October for double VIP points on purchases from the Lego Store and online and such. This year is no different... except instead of lasting for the full month, it's only lasting the first FOUR days.   So I guess they felt they were too generous with their promotion earlier, so they had to reaaaaaally cut down the timeframe for it. (I guess losing 10% to crazy AFOLs who spend like crazy all month must've hurt their sales too much?) Plus, now it doesn't coinside

5002641 Bionicle Hero Pack Review

(Click for Review) Somewhat surprisingly, this is my first EVER Bionicle review posted on the BZPower front page. My first review was Ben 10, right after the higher staff had all claimed the Bionicle Stars sets in 2010, so I never got a chance to review em back then, and I got disincluded from reviewing the first Gen 2 wave this year. But I managed to sneak one in. Coolio.   Eh, it's a lengthy review for what boils down to an exclusive mask. But hey, another chance to post black light photos o

I Still Don't Like Ants

But Ant-Man was a good movie.   Some great action, some decent characters. Pacing felt a little off near the middle, but the finale was solid. But it played it high with the humor, which I really appreciate. A lot of LOL moments, especially with his "crew". But quite a few deaths in this one too, and although a lot weren't a huge focus, there were a few that were emotional. Still, would see again. Probably will see again.   Still, some of the swarm scenes with the ants creeped me out. I'm not a

BrickCon 2017

I made it back to BrickCon again this year, having missed it last year. This was the first time I've visited as part of the public since 2008... and I realize just how hard it is to see all the MOCs during public hours. Got to hang out with some old friends and meet some new people from BS01 who were fun to hang out with. (And one kid who talks 100MPH and is really opinionated about Bionicle!) There was a lot of cool stuff on display, although between chatting and going out for lunch, I didn't

Lewa and Pohatu Masters Review

Target had some more Bionicle... in fact it was one of the few Lego shelves that was fully stocked. So I bought some more. Muhaha. Now time for a quick review.     First things first, did I either not read the Lewa reviews closely enough or did none of them mention all the new technic goodies that he came with? +oo rods and 1 length rod spacers? First one was from last year and relatively uncommon, and Lewa has four, and the spacers are new, I believe!   Since I already started... Lewa seems fa

Review 70644 Golden Dragon Master

Here is Lego's latest Ninjago spinner / action / unique character only available here set: 70644 Golden Dragon Master! Some people might be enticed to buy these because of the figs. (Guilty.) Some people might do it for the pieces. Some might do it for the action. And some people might mistake the price of these things and think they're getting a legit set. (I mean, really, $15? I get there are more pieces, but did this new design really need to be this big... or needed at all?)   Piece wise, th

My Thoughts on 2012

Normally, around this time of year, I would write a blog entry summarizing all my shortcomings from this year and how I was going to change next year. Only this time, I don't feel horrible depressed or anything so I got nothing much to add. (That, and just in case the world ended last week, I only planned for 3 months into 2013. Drat, now I gotta think about stuff even further down the road... like 4 month from now, or even 5 months!)   So, um, I'm excited to start an internship and move to D

Mosaic WIP

Can you guess what it is?     Okay, so I'm borrowing this idea from Arthur Gugick. He's made those really cool Anakin/Darth Vader and Batman/Joker mosaics, where if you look at it from one direction you see one character, and from the other direction you see someone else. The concept is just too cool, and it's made using those nifty little cheese slopes.   So I wanted to try something like this.   My main problem is that I don't have the quantity of cheese slopes to really make something cool

Review 70620: Ninjago City - Level 3

I have finished the Ninjago City model, so one last rambling of thoughts on it. The third and top level here consists of the rooftop sushi restaurant and the radio tower.     The Sushi restaurant isn't too extravagant, because it is just sitting atop a rooftop. The edged of the curved roof are nice, with the two straight bits being made of door pieces. (One side is right hand doors, the other is left hand doors, so if you part this set out, you've have a full set of matching pairs.) There's ple

NEED: MOCs for a Black Light Display at Bricks Cascade

I don't think I've mentioned this before, but it's been on my mind for a while.   I'm going to be setting up a small black light display at BricksCascade. Unfortunately, I only have one decent MOC that's made out of fluorescent colors. Last time, I just made a quick mash up of all my decent pieces that would look good... but it was a messy design. Instead, I would rather share the display with two-three other Toa sized characters, which is about what I think can fit inside the display. If you've

Work Related Injuries

I may or may not have passed out at work today.   At one moment, I'm standing up and then start laughing at a hilarious joke a coworker said. The next moment I'm on the floor. I honestly don't know what happened.   If its fatal, at least I could say I died as I lived... laughing hard at an offensive joke.   Also finished my collection of series 14 figs, got some Star Wars buildable figures, bought a frickin' car... the usual.

Away

My cousin's wedding is this weekend, so I'm leaving to go to an island with sketchy-at-best wifi. That means that I probably won't be uber active, not that I am anyway. Normally, after posting an entry on a contraversail topic, I would stay around to keep an eye on it, but alas I won't be able to do that very well. So yeah.   Also gonna meet Swert in Tacoma and Razlak/Mylo   Please keep things civil, 'kay?

Spikels Mixels Review

Click Here For Review Probably not the first review of the new Spikels, but gosh it's gotta be one of the first. (Not that it really matters, I know most people barely read the reviews anyway.) Still, I am happier with these three than a lot of the others! Lots of character here!

Derpy Smaug

He doesn't know he's the most powerful firedrake in the north.   Also, that Smaug set is totally worth the $70 I spent on it. Great figs, a good amount of pieces for that price (some good ones at it) and the dragon itself is quite amazing, especially the wings. Gosh, could you imagine if we have to pay $130 for it, that would be a total rip.

More Thoughts on BBC Contest 69

Oh man, this has got to be my favorite contest in a while. It's so awesome to see all the entries of classic characters reimagined. I mean, there were some neat builds in the BFTGM, but this is just an awesome revamp nostalgia trip with some swell designs of characters big and small! I mean, I always appreciated a good revamp, and this contest is littered with em. I have a feeling the polls are going to be REALLY tough!   I also don't know how well my entry will do in comparison. I haven't see m

Sub W I P Part 4

No, no, I did not completely revamp my idea. This is a second, sister sub. And by sister, I mean evil twin sister. Yes, an AquaShark submarine!   Back story: I never had any Aquashark sets... I must've got my Aquanaut set a year after it's release, because when I really started getting into Lego the new themes were Hydronauts and Stingrays. But having constructed my Aquanaut sub to near completion (still waiting on a few pieces) I decided that I might as well work towards an opponent sub...

Set Review: S.O.G. Headquarters

Ninjago occasionally releases a set that’s basically an arena for the latest spinners. Usually it’s a couple of walls built to contain the spinners with a few functions and themed sculptures thrown in. Some of the designs are better than others, but mostly their appeal is in playability or unique minifigures. Well, in the case of 70640 S.O.G. Headquarters, I totally got it for the figs, although 530 pieces for $40 did convince me to get the full set and not just Bricklink Lloyd’s exclusive fig.

Review: Harry Potter Collectible Minifigures

Technically the Harry Potter Collectible Minifigures aren't supposed to hit shelves until August, when the whole Wizarding World line releases worldwide. But my local Fred Meyers scoffs at such release dates, and there were at least five boxes to choose from, three unopened! So I spent way too much time feeling out my favorites... which accounts for most of the series!     For the record, I did not get Dobby, pajama Harry, or Credence because I don't want them. I did miscount and so I didn't bu

Bionicle Double-Decker Couch

I haven't blogged much lately, so I'm gonna start out with a new MOC I've been working on for a while...     I have yet to see a Double-Decker Couch built out of Bionicle elements yet, so I went ahead and built one myself. Granted, it's a little messy and not very stable, especially since the characters are just barely attached to it. But I think it comes off well.   That is a new Matoran design, and while I'd like to say it's mostly Bionicle, that's kinda untrue. The torsos are primarily syste

More Korra

Okay, saw it. I thought it was good. Gave most of the characters plenty of room to shine, and had a few twists in there. Yeah, the last five minutes weren't the best, but I don't think they were as bad as people keep saying.         Wait wait wait... it's over. Second season isn't coming next week? Now what will I have to watch online?

Elves on Netflix

So I just watched the Lego Elves series on Netflix. I've seen the previous two seasons (episodes, they didn't really last that long) and while it was a decent story, the animation always seems a bit off, and the voice cast wasn't always the best. Well, the voice cast stayed the same for the most part, but either they got better or I just got used to it. The animation, however, is way better; you can definitely feel the Voltron / Avatar vibe to it. I was expecting the elemental uses to be a bit m
