Elves Joke

You know the new Lego Elves theme is aimed towards girls because when the main character gets lost... she asks for directions! Ba dump dump chshshshshshshsh!   (Wonder how many people will be offended by this. I mean I don't think it's offensive but it's about a gender stereotype and people seem to get easily offended by stuff like that.)   In other news, I have 5 of the 12 baseplates completed for the mosaic, plus one extra in case somebody else doesn't get theirs in on time. (I hope it would

Review: 76035: Jokerland

To take a break from official front page reviews, I’m going to do a couple of blog review. Mostly these were sets that I was planning to review, but for one reason or another they didn’t end up making it to the front page. So here are some thoughts but without all the super details and pictures and video. (I mean, some pictures, but they’re not great quality cause I already had this on display and I wasn’t going to move it just for a photo shoot.)   The priciest Batman set last summer was Jokerl

Internship

Yay, good news on the job front!   I applied for a few internships already for January 2013 (you know, considering we all don't go puff in December because of some Mayan god or something.) They're based in Dallas, and I had a phone interview, and now they want an in person interview, so they're flying me out there for a day. At this point they've got to be interested, right? I hope to do my best in said interview, and I'm excited to see what will come of it!   Also I may have mentioned in my

Potential Toa Masters Mosaics?

These are, of course, raw versions that I just threw through Pic-to-Brick's mosaic generator once. (Oh, I got that to work for me again, turns out I didn't have Java installed. Huh.) Anyway, things would definitely get tweaked to stay with more consistent coloring. Particularly, the backgrounds would probably get changed to grayscale, although I'd probably keep the styling instead of making it a solid background. Adds some extra flair, if just for shades of gray.   I myself am partial to the Gal

Hero Factory Story Idea

Okay, I’ll lead up with this idea is not entirely original, but somehow I got it out of the end of a dream I had this morning and although the rest of the dream was kinda something else entirely, I remember this specific idea and thought it might be cool to expand on and now I’m working out the story in my head and all that stuff...   Aaaaanyway.   The basic premise: The main Hero characters are somehow defeated and only their cores remain. Throw in some cross-dimensional rifts and stuff. They e

Why Bzpers Loves Lego Friends Figs

(Click For Link)   Yay, another Lego Friends Review. I actually got this set and took pictures of it in January, but then I heard DeeVee was gonna write a review so I put it off so he could get his say in first. (Also, because I didn't want to point out the exact same things. Now I know that a few of my observations are somewhat original as far as BZP reviews go.) Last month, I got around to finally writing this review, and now I've posted it. Yayz.   As for why BZPers should love the new F

Now I Have Four Ways To Punch You In The Face

So for all the missteps of the Lego Ninjago Movie, it did have a couple of decent songs to go with it. I was listening to the album, and the song "Heroes" is a pretty decent pop song. It's not as addictively catchy as "Everything is Awesome" but enjoyable. "Operation New Me" and "Found My Place" are also good, but I don't like "Dance of Doom." The instrumental bits are also nice, but they're not quite as iconic as those from The Lego Movie. There's an Asian / action movie vibe, but it's not supe

BrickCon People Caption Contest Part 5

Pro: Getting a call about an interview. Yayz! Con: They did it at 8 AM. Don't they know that night owls are asleep until at least 11?   Enough about me, more BrickCon Captions...   I have a lot of cool people pictures from our fun times at BrickCon. Instead of just posting them all at once, I'll stagger them out into multiple blog entries, and let you submit captions for each of them / comment on em. No prize other than sharing your wit with the community.   Part 5     Man, I have like 2

Spoiler: Smaug Eats Everybody

Wow, Hobbit II AKA Desolation of Smaug was amazing. Like, really good. Sure, it wasn't exactly like the book... but it was better.   One thing I can say that's spoiler free was that the IMAX 3D showing was good and almost worth the money. (Almost... it was very pricy!) Since they filmed at a higher rate than normal, the movements were supposed to be more "natural" but last year I found them rather jerky and bothersome, and at points in detracted from the movie in general. But maybe that's just m

Review: Brainiac Attack

And here’s another short review. I ordered 76040 Brainiac Attack at the start of the new year, but then it got backordered and I didn’t receive it until the end of the month. But I’ve put it together and now will speak my mind on this.     Brainiac Attack is $24.99 USD, the second cheapest DC Super Heroes set out this winter and the cheapest one to get Superman in. And you wouldn’t be amiss if you got this strictly for the figs; technically they’re all unique, although that’s slightly misleadin

I've moved again.   So that means no Internet.*   For a month.   Don't expect much from me.     *Well except on my phone or at work, but I tend to just browse during those times instead of posting content.

Today is Just Too Hot

I'll just preface this in saying that I have no heat tolerance.   So, I spent all of last summer in an apartment with no Air Conditioning and it was terrible. I decided to get ahead of the curve and got an (expensive) portable AC unit a few months ago. But its loud and is constantly filling up with water that needs to be changed every 40 minutes when its on, but as needy as it was, it did provide cool air for a bit.   But it's been in the upper 90s here this week, and then the bloody interior fa

Palm Pilot

So, way back in the day, there were these devices called Palm Pilots or something. They could include calendars and notepads and other stuff on them. Basically, I always saw them as hand held computers, although clearly they were limited compared to desktops. This was like in the early 2000s. I know a couple of my classmates had some.   And back in 2003 or 2004 (I forget when) I wrote this adventure story that I'm sure I've mentioned here before. It was about four friends getting trapped in

Ninjago Mosaic Completed

So this is what I've been building for the last couple of days. (Helped that Andrew sent me back some of my older mosaic plates, because I really needed to steal some pieces from them.) This is a scene from the Skybound season where Jay and Nya get back together at the end of it, which is one of my favorite scenes. However, the background in the screenshot was meh, so I swapped it out for a more unique skyscape shot of Ninjago City, including Borg Tower.   As for interesting techniques used here

Animorphs Movie?

I thought it was just hype (and some extremely wishful thinking on some fan's part) but apparently it's a real thing that might happen. I'm trying to not let myself get excited, because I don't know how well they could pull it off with a single movie since the series was quite extensive... but all the same it's something to look forward to. (And hey, suddenly my Lego models seem a little more relevant.)

Onua Uniters Mosaic Update

That's five pieces down. Unfortunately, although I have parts to spare... I don't have enough of them to do an emergency baseplate, so I hope the other contributors can make it happen. (Because if they don't... well the pieces I have are all on the edges, and really don't form a coherent picture at all.)   Black Six: Piece 3 danny316p: Piece 4 Valendale: Piece 5   I guess I do have a lot of extra medium lavender, in case someone needs help with that color.   Can't wait to see it come together at

Browsers

FireFox is highly overrated. It's not bad, but people who use it have a superiority complex.   Chrome is Google... you do not use Bing on it.   Safari is Apple and therefore lame.   Internet Explorer is not only the original and most widely used but it works and anyone who says otherwise is in denial and is probably suffering from the superiority complex mentioned above.   Opera is... y'know what, I don't have a good knowledge about this one? I should experience it some more before I really ev

Best Lego Sets of 2017

Another year has come and gone, and with it I’ve spent a large sum of it on Lego. There were a lot of sets that I wanted to review this year, but alas I have not been able to touch on a lot of them. Some sets were great, others not so much. Some had great figs, some had great builds, and some had great pieces. Instead of doing a comprehensive review, I figured I’d do a quick “Best of 2017” list. So, in no particular order, here are my picks for the best Lego sets of 2017 (based on what I’ve purc

A March Conundrum

They're doing a local showing of the new Sword Art Online movie in Portland, and I'm interested. But it also happens to be on the first day of BricksCascade.   Decisions decisions...

First Entry

Yay For Me.   Egads, I'd never thought I'd ever write a blog. I've looked down upon this kind of activity on pretty much every other website. It's not a bad thing, I just don't find any interest in it. But if BZP has taken it on, then it must be good, right?   Anyway, here's a blog. What do I write? A history about myself? Maybe? I guess I can just comment on stories and artwork I'm working on or whatever.   Or how about a history. I was a kid. Male (incase you still didn't know).

Who Would Want Custom Printed Toa Minifigures?

I've been trying to work out a deal for some custom printed minifigure torsos for another project, and then I got thinking about how cool it would be to have printed torsos for the Toa, and then perhaps even printed heads too! Custom Lego fig prints are more common nowadays, so in theory it wouldn't be too difficult to pull it off. But it would still be pricey... but one way to bring down the price is to order in bulk. And it occurred to me that there might be other fans out there also intereste

MOCing Spree

So with the convention looming in the near future, I had to think about what models I was bringing.   For Bionicle, I don't have a lot of new stuff. I've got the remnants of my Rahi project and Takanuva. I also built a few Bionicle trees for the BioniLug display, and I have this new Pohatu Phantoka model that I've been working on for a while, but not a lot new.   For Space, I have my modular ships (which I'm keeping track of in a sidebar.) I have 8 completed, but six more colors that I want t

Mata Nui Island Project: Day 6

Blah blah blah building a Mata Nui Island model, blah blah at City Blocks Lego Art Studio blah blah more blogging.   Day 6       Oh hey, look at this, the island is finished!   We started today off early. I built the Hura Mafu river area, while Swert finally got the desert completed. (He cheated and used an exposed tan baseplate.) Then we added some hills in Ga-Wahi, and covered the jungle with trees. (Or specifically, the spikey flower elements that look good for foliage. Dan had a hug

Collectibles Displays

I've been working on some displays to spice up my apartment, specifically of some of my Bionicle / Lego collectibles. (Side note, I am clearly not a normal person.) I got two finished up and wanted to share pictures. Yay!   Kanohi-Collection by Xccj, on Flickr   This is a full set of the original 72 Kanohi, plus the gold and silver great masks. It doesn't include room for rare masks or misprints or Matoran masks or Rahi masks... I wanted the colors to match. I originally made a similar design a

Lewa Phantoka

Okay, I'll say this up straight. I was very disappointed in my Lewa Phantoka set. So disappointed that I'm writing to Lego about it. See if you can tell why.     How much time do you need to figure it out?   It took me a while. I purchased the thing at Target, along with some other essential supplies that could only be obtained through big scale retail stores. (Yum, Goldfish) I poured the pieces out and began to construct him, but I was kind of curious how the back of his body was cons
