Dead Or Alive

It's mine.

As some of you may have heard, Borders filed for bankruptcy and are closing a bunch of stores. A few of those happen to be close to my house [actually, all three that are close to me are closing]. While that's obviously sad, it also means that there's sales. Everything was 20-40% off, and some things were even cheaper. I ended up with Dead Or Alive, along with two other books: Point of Impact and Night of Thunder, both by Stephen Hunter.

I've wanted to get Tom Clancy's new book since it came out, so this was my excuse to. The other two books I got because of the movie Shooter. When I saw that for the first time, it became one of my favorite movies, and I love the character Bob Lee Swagger [and Mark Wahlberg does a supurb job as him] -- I mean, he's a Marine, and a Sniper. So of course, once I learned that it was based off the first book in a series written by Stephen Hunter, I immediately became interested, and started looking for the first in the series [Point of Impact, renamed Shooter for the movie]. Hadn't been able to find it at any used bookstore, so decided to get it here. Usually I only get one of a series until I decide if I like it, but Night of Thunder was only $4.79 after the discount, and in hardback, so I figured why not.

I think I'll probably go back, though, as I'm sure they'll have even bigger sales. While my dad was waiting in the checkout ['cause these books are part of a belated Christmas-gift-thing . . . long story], I was still looking around and found two other books that I really wanted: The Count of Monte Cristo by Alexandre Dumas and The Legend of Sigurd and Gudrun, by J.R.R. Tolkien [published in '09 by Christopher Tolkien]. The latter especially. But I decided I'd wait to see if I can get a better price or, in the latter's case, find it in hardback, as it was only in paperback there.

Though of course if every book in Borders was only a dollar, I'd practically buy out the store, because there were so many books that I wanted. Hopefully I'll be able to find them at a used bookstore.

Anyway, after I finish the Brad Thor series I'm on, I'll read DoA -- so excited! I mean, heck, it's been the one of the top five New York Times Bestsellers for 10 weeks now [and it's still on it], including the #1 Bestseller. And it's Clancy. And it's Jack Ryan. Really looking forward to reading it, since the only book I've read by him is Patriot Games, unfortunately. Speaking of, recently saw Sum of All Fears for the first time. Didn't really like Ben Affleck; Alec Baldwin definitely does a better job in The Hunt For Read October. But man is it long [950 pages]. Gonna be the longest thing I've ever read.

In other news, I'm really enjoying the BZPRPG. If you haven't, you should really consider joining. It's great.

Oh, and three day weekend; yes!
