Worldscape

It's been a long while since I've taken a serious undertaking on BZP. You know, a full-fledged, multi-person effort that requires devotion, time, and unprecedented overuse of your creative engines until it explodes. I have a spark of an idea that would merit such a title, and it's called Worldscape. How it actually would function on a day-to-day basis, I have no idea, but it's an idea I've been toying with for a while, and the idea seems particularly tempting.

The basic concept is that a team of members, probably three to five, gets together to administrate Worldscape. Both the administration and participants can submit ideas for, as the title suggests, a world--things like setting, geography, history, plot, so on, in an order the administration would establish. The adminmen would filter these ideas and put 'em through processes like editing themselves and putting them through polls. Every single participant would have an extremely significant part in Worldscape, both in terms of daily activity (of which there'd be a lot), and long-term goals and planning. It'd be created in such a way that not a single part of it wouldn't be fun, and it'd a fantastic, hopefully even revolutionary experience for participants of every variety--writers of every kind, artists on and off the computer, visionaries, leaders, followers, procrastinators.

The burning question--what happens when it's finished? Easy answer--the administration will put the whole thing together into a massive kick-butt RPG (after all, you guys designed it, how could you not love it?), or a masterpiece of writing, or both, or something else entirely.

Thoughts?

I think this sounds really cool, and I think you should go through with it. I'm guessing it would turn out to be something multi-dimensional, complex, and awesome at the same time?

So, a couple questions:

Would we be writing a story to go along with the world, its landscape, characters, features, and stuff, or just creating it and then writing the story?

Is it Bionicle-related or not?

Anyway, I'm totally up for this.

Thanks! This'll probably happen, I just need popular response. Let's see if anyone else takes interest in this, and maybe we get advertise a bit more before it actually gets going.

Little confused as to the difference of writing a story for a world vs. creating a world and then writing a story?

Bionicle didn't even cross my mind. :P It won't be Bionicle unless a vast majority would strongly prefer it, but if that does happen I've got no problem.

Ah, good to hear.

What I mean by the difference between writing a story for a world and creating a world for a story is this: Will we be creating the world based around several characters and a story, or will we be creating the world on its own, and then writing a story?

Also, I prefer non-Bionicle as well. :D

BTW, you should probably bump this entry.

Cap--The world would definitely be created as its own project, without any real story in mind (well, maybe the administration team would be thinking about it personally, but it would have no bearing in the actual world's creation). That being said, any characters significant in the world's creation, such as world leaders or revolutionaries, may play some role in a story while it is written. But, no, anything concerning the story will have no effect on the progression of Worldscape.

ASL--Get over it. :P

I'm going to wait for a couple of more members to take notice o' this before I pick a team, but you're definitely a candidate!

By the way, never bumped, how d'you do it?

This sounds really cool. Not sure if I'll be able to participate as a participant, but I definitely support it [and can help out if you need anything, probably]. Though of course I may just have to participate, as again I do think this sounds like a cool idea. And yes, totally for non-BIONICLE. Definitely think it'd be better that way [not that I'm against BIONICLE, but yeah].

And on the subject of writing . . . know if/when you'll bring back WA? Lol, just read the above posts . . . But seriously, you really should bring it back. I know I could use something to motivate me to write more.

Edit: Ah, heck, I'm in for now. And if you so allow/want, part of the Administration as well.

Mission accomplished. :P Anyone want to advertise it in their sigs?

I do. I can make a banner and put it up by the end of today, probably.

EDIT: Here is the banner I made (very quickly). If you think it's too plain or anything like that I can redo it.

Also, the stats: 414 x 300 pixels, 64 kilobytes.
