Samurai Blockhead Or: The Art I Mentioned Last Night

As well as free-hand with a pen, I've been playing with the more professional method of drawing basic shapes and "carving" the image out of them lately. One such experiment was this - Samurai Blockhead, a drawing that actually hasn't gone too badly. It's still just lineart, but hey, it's better than a lot of my sketches. His head is still pencil though, and that's because I'm unsure; I'm a terrible artist with heads. I can draw faces straight-on half-decently, but from the side they look silly, and forget anything in-between, so I didn't want to ruin it. Cubes are easy though. Should I leave this guy with a cube for a head, or should I try making a face?

And hey! You can see one of my other drawings through the paper! More reason I need a tablet!

My main suggestion would be that you work on perspective and shading. Right now, the image looks very flat. Once you get better at perspective, you can work on accuracy with anatomic and structural details.

It's just basic lineart right now - It's only just past the first stages. It's not supposed to have shading because it's not done yet. :P

You lose a lot of interestingness if you change his head. Just keep it a block. :)

I just noticed it looks like you erased another drawing on this page. :P
