Dead Man's Chest (pt. 2)... And Some Other Stuff
Bones: I don't quite agree that it was better than the first one... They seem so different that it's almost hard to compare them. It's still a great movie, though, and I think it's very close to the first in terms of coolness.
ToM: I guess I should have specified. Yeah, I knew that already... You probably knew a lot of this already. XP But I hope you enjoy the movie as much as I did. B)
Okay, so I actually didn't end up seeing the movie last night. As it turned out, when we went to the theater we found that the showing we planned to go to was sold out of tickets (understandable, since it was PotC 2's release day and a Saturday night and all), and we opted not to go to the later showing (11:35 PM; quite late, really). It was rather disappointing after all the anticipation, but it was okay. We bough tickets to see it today (technically yesterday for me) at 3:10 PM. So we went. We got Skittles and Twizzlers. We watched. Intently.
The experience in the theater was thoroughly enjoyable, as it usually is when one has treatses and a good movie to watch. There were a lot of laughs during the show and the movie was very engaging.
After emerging from the theater with a slightly dazed (but nonetheless excited) demeanor as I usually do after watching long and engaging movies, I found myself with the following opinions:
---
The movie was quite good and I doubt they could have made it any better than it is for a sequel. However, in terms of classic pirate-y-ness, I don't think it quite lives up to the original. It's probably just because the first had all the skeleton pirates and all that, so it just seemed a lot more memorable and traditional. THe second is very different in that respect, with things you would never expect and a very original plotline. This is, of course, a good thing. But the first is still classic.
Also, in terms of story, it seemed a lot more far-fetched than the original. The events in the story are harder to believe and a little more unrealistic, but it still works pretty well, and I doubt they could have changed much to make it better... It still works, and quite well.
Dead Man's Chest has a lot of references to the first one that make it all the more hilarious, and many lines are still very witty and can really make you laugh. I'm very glad they kept this, as the movie is rather dark, which leads me to my next point...
This movie is far darker and more angsty than the first, and I think it digs a little deeper into the darker sides of the characters. The plot is tense and many character interactions along the way have a lot of tension.
The ending of the movie was awesome, IMO. I just loved it. I loved the whole thing, really. I think it ranks quite closely with the first, but I still like the first in terms of classic pirate action. This one is definitely good though. Go watch it. Immediately.
Arr.
In other news, I went Inika hunting today. Two friends of mine have spotted and purchased Toa Inika from their respective Toys 'R' Us stores, and they live in different states; I figured I should check as well. After some anticipation (there's tons of that from me regarding the Inika), I was disappointed to find zero Inika. It was rather annoying as they already had the new Knights' Kingdom II sets (both System and action figure), as well as the Avatar: The Last Airbender and Somesponge Squarepants sets. So I was rather vexed for a while, but I guess it turned out okay... I'll still get them sometime, if later than most people.
... ><
And that's really all the significant news I have for today. I know it's pretty lengthy, but I can get pretty talkative at times (especially with things involving stuff I like), like now. And these are two things I've been waiting most of the year for.
Soooo... Signing off now. I guess I'll get some sleep.
