I must congratulate the Fab Five for their outstanding victory in team gymnastics. I have never seen anything like it. As far as I could remember, the American team has always been an underdog in the gymnastic arena and medaling has always been a miracle. Never have I seen the American team come in with such clear power and establish themselves as a juggernaut. I still remember the outstanding challenges of the Magnificent Seven back in 1996, Dominique Moceanu's floor routine, and Kerri Strug's legendary vault (not to mention the iconic stars and stripes uniforms). Those moments were golden, and it's nice to see what they have inspired.
I feel sorry for Russia, though. It was really strange to see the pressure on them for once, because in the past they were the powerhouse. If you looked at their reactions to their performances, they were struggling emotionally with a lot of disappointment. I was worried that they wouldn't even medal after Anastasia Grishina's floor routine (scoring 12.466). Fortunately, they got silver. That's nice, since I'd hate to say goodbye to a country that's been such a worthy adversary for so long and pushed us so hard,
Of course, allow me to reveal some of my bias. As it happens, I was predisposed to like Anastasia Grishina. She looks like a Vulcan, and that is cool. No seriously, look at this.
Best.
Eyebrows.
Ever.
