April 16: Top Ten Tuesday REWIND -- pick a past topic you missed or one you want to revisit!

As such, I've chosen: "Top Ten Books I Want to Reread"

  1. A Monster Calls, by Patrick Ness. This is probably my favorite book. I've read it twice, and I'm definitely eager to do so again.
  2. The Book Thief, by Markus Zusak. An amazing book that I've only read once--would definitely look forward to reading it again.
  3. A Song of Ice and Fire, by George R.R. Martin. Because this series was/is amazing. I still need to read A Dance with Dragons (I've been waiting for the paperback, because I'm slightly OCD in wanting the same edition for the whole series, but I might give in and buy the hardback--especially since the paperback release date has been pushed back once again <_<), but I'll look forward to reading them all again.
  4. Harry Potter, by J.K. Rowling. These books were really fun to read, and I only read them for the first time last August.
  5. Holes, by Louis Sachar. Just read this book last Friday for the first time. I know, I'm probably the only person who hasn't. Needless to say, it was amazing.
  6. The Phantom Tollbooth, by Norton Juster. And I just read this book on Saturday--same thing. Amazing book that I'd love to re-read.
  7. American Assassin, by Vince Flynn. Another of my favorite books. I've already read this two or three times--wouldn't mind doing it again.
  8. The Dresden Files, by Jim Butcher. A fantastic urban fantasy series, with one of the greatest narrators of any book or series I've read.
  9. The Four Loves, by C.S. Lewis. Because it's amazing.
  10. The Chronicles of Narnia, by C.S. Lewis. Because I don't remember the books at all, except small glimpses of The Magician's Nephew, because I read them so long ago.

I can justify Holes, but, seriously? You only read Phantom Tollbooth for the first time that recently? =O

Such a good book!

Can't say I particularly liked Harry Potter, but Narnia is a classic and well worth re-reading.

Haven't read A Monster Calls yet. Found his other book, The Knife of Never Letting Go, and I finished it within 24 hours. It was pretty much amazing. A Monster Calls is waiting at my Library at this moment, though, so I should finally read it soon! =D

I actually haven't read any of the others yet either... Dats silly.

I know! I'm quite disappointed in myself. I'm really not sure how my childhood went by without me reading those. Still, though, I absolutely loved it, and in a way I really enjoyed enjoying it for the first time. There's a lot of books/movies/etc. you wish you could read/see/etc. for the first time again, and in a way I was able to do that--without the "again." =P But it was just fun to experience that novel--extremely amazing even though I'm an adult--for the first time. Sometimes children's books are the best books, because they're not just for kids, or only enjoyable by kids--but they are clean, fun, and extremely enjoyable.

Yeah, I'm definitely going to re-read the Narnia books at some point. It really frustrates me how I don't really remember them besides a few glimpses--I almost wonder if I actually did ever read through them completely, but I'm almost positive I did.

Ah, nice! Unfortunately I haven't read any of his Chaos Walking trilogy yet, but I've heard it's quite good--I definitely will as soon as I find all of them at a used bookstore (currently I only have the second; The Ask and the Answer)--good to hear you enjoyed it. I'm excited for you reading A Monster Calls, it really is amazing!

Eh, understandable. A lot of those books aren't necessarily books that "everyone has read," but I do definitely recommend them (particularly The Book Thief). Though as I'm sure you've heard, be wary of A Song of Ice and Fire if you ever do decide to read it--there's quite a bit of adult material in them, unfortunately, but otherwise is a fantastic fantasy series.

I can't tell you how many times I have wanted to read some different books for the first time again. Getting that sense of wonder that first time just blows away every subsequent reading. The Lord of the Rings is one that I kinda wish that I had waited a little while before reading, because I read it in like the fifth grade and couldn't comprehend so much of the book. I understood the main conflicts, but much of the smaller details I didn't get at all. It is still amazing though. Phantom Tollbooth has been a favorite of mine for years though, and I find myself enjoying it more every time, as I get all the allegories and the symbolism throughout the book more each time.

I definitely agree to that, there are some amazing books within the younger book categories. Gregor the Overlander, Charlie Bone(Or at least the original five), Rowan of Rin, Redwall, Septimus Heap; I could go on all day with these types of books, so many of which I can still enjoy after the forth or fifth time reading them. =P

Yes, it was very good! It had a pretty substantial amount of language throughout it, which I normally kinda avoid, but it felt.. right, somehow. I honestly think the book would have been worse if it never cursed at all. I would like to hear your opinion on it, and if it does improve the book, as I highly doubt I am the only one who thought that.

So, now for the real reason why I came back to comment again. I read A Monster Calls. It was not at all what I expected, but it was amazingly good. I laid awake afterwards, after I finished it at 12:04 AM (So close!), and I felt this amazing sense of catharsis. I was just amazed. It was so good! I have already recommended it to about four people, as well as made it a prop for the play I am doing soon. Hopefully somebody asks me what it is!

I will check out The Book Thief then, I have heard a lot of good things about it. I will probably wait a while before reading any of the Game of Thrones books though, hopefully when he finally finishes the series. =P

Yes, I definitely know what you mean. I'd have to say my most recent experience of that would be with The Night Circus, by Erin Morgenstern. An amazing, amazing book that is just completely fantastic and an awesome experience to read. I often say that reading it is like going to the night circus itself, and to be able to read that again for the first time would be awesome. Funny you should mention LOTR, though--I'm actually reading that right now. I tried a couple of times a long time ago, but was too young and couldn't get into it (I also think that my parents read it to me as a bedtime story for a while, but I don't really remember too much of it). It's definitely amazing so far, and I can tell it'll be something I wish I could read again for a first time. I also wish I could read it without having seen the movies first, haha, so I can experience it completely for just what it is. Ah well.

You're talking about Chaos Walking, right? Because yeah, I've heard the same things--that it has a fair amount of language in it, but at the same time, it doesn't feel out of place. Can't say myself yet, but based on what others have said I'd say that's true. Without getting too much into it, it's always a weird thing--sometimes "inappropriate content" seems fine (language and violence), but only if it's done tastefully and realistically. There's also other content that just never seems fine, even if it might be realistic. =P

But awesome! I'm so glad you enjoyed it! It totally wasn't what I was expecting either when I first read it, but it was definitely a pleasant surprise. It's great that you're recommending it to people, too--it's definitely the #1 book I ever recommend.

But cool, sounds good! The Book Thief is definitely a nice book, too. Probably one of the few books I would possibly consider "life-changing", in a way. Good idea with GoT--as much as I enjoyed the series, I 1. am glad I waited until I was 18; and 2. don't like waiting for the next books. =P
