Feeling slightly grateful

Little Miss Krahka

So at the moment, my family is driving me to the brink of insanity (more than the usual background insanity I've got) for reasons that I'm not really willing to go into at this time and in this place, but there are times when I am extremely grateful.

Today I was playing d20 Future, as I'm wont to do on Saturdays, and we were also playing with Legos as the GM has a bunch of Legos at his place. And among the Lego pieces was Gali's original mask. My brother and I, who both grew up with Bionicle remarked on it, and reminisced about the good times and about how Gali's my favorite Toa. (Though if we want to get really nerdy, she's my favorite Toa that's had a set made of her. She's my third favorite Toa, after Helryx and Tuyet, but I didn't feel like explaining just how complicated Bionicle got in its later years.)

And one of my friends remarked that her parents never let her have Bionicles, because they were "nerd" toys and her parents didn't want her to grow up to be a nerd. She had to hide the fact that she watched Star Trek from them. When they learned that she played Dungeons and Dragons, they cried, not because it's Satan's Game but because they were afraid she'd never get a boyfriend. (It should be noted that she does have a boyfriend, my brother, who was at the table.) They gave up trying to control her full on nerdery when she started LARPing.

So as much as my parents are driving me up a wall, I'm glad they encouraged my budding nerdiness and didn't restrict me from any hobbies.
