NaNoWriMo

a goose

Considering entering, but wondering whether it's worthwhile this late? I don't exactly have a great deal of substance at the moment (a 870-word prologue for a novel that doesn't yet have a title), but I'm still interested in participating. Any advice?

well first of all you're really gonna have to hightail it to catch up but better late then never

most of what you write is going to be garbage. I mean this in general, not as a slight against you. most of what I have written so far is garbage. most of what anyone who's participated so far has written is likely garbage. Don't focus on that. Focus on getting ideas on the page, because at the end of the day, that's what this is about. You need to get the ideas out there first, and remove your inhibitions. After that, you can sift through and throw out/refine the garbage.

I really wanted to participate this year but I just don't have the time. The most I've done is a series of late-night vignettes that I envision as scenes from what would have been my NaNoWriMo novel, which I hope will eventually come in handy.

By my estimation you'll have to write over 2,000 words a day. Good luck!

Go for it! Yes, we're a week in, but don't let that stop you from writing! This little thing we do isn't for glory or to be published someday (Although that can happen sometimes) We do it because we enjoy writing, and we have a story that we want to share.

Even if you don't hit the 50,000 word mark this month, you still have a story that you otherwise wouldn't have written. It will take some work to catch up to what the word count is expected to be at this point, but weekends are good for binge-writing.

Be sure to check out the NaNo forums too. They have a ton of helpful advice and resources for writers.
