I Saw Ultron

He was actually a far more interesting character than I thought the trailers made him out to be.

The movie was good overall. A lot of cameo or guest appearances. Except for one that I was hoping for...

Coulson. Now I have to catch up on Agents of Shield, to see how it ties in... well, specifically how it ties in, I think I got the gist.

But, of course, the most critical part of the movie must come under some scrutiny, and that is... how well do the Lego sets fit in with it? Spoilers beware:

Iron Man vs. Ultron: Well, I guess the two did tango a bit, and the sentries certainly made their appearance. Don't remember seeing that other rider thingie from the movie. Might've been cooler to have some landscape piece that could've fit in instead.

Avengers Hydra Showdown: Well, Hawkeye and Thor were both there when they attacked Hydra, and they even had the two vehicles on each side, although I don't remember the Hydra one specifically, so if it was there it got little screen time. (Or was probably destroyed pretty quickly.)

Hulk Buster Smash: Yeah, this scene did play out, and even that shielding stuff was there. Specifically, Scarlet Witch and Ultron weren't exactly in that scene, but they were nearby, so I'll let it slide for what was probably the flagship set of this theme. (I have not seen it on store shelves for months.)

Hydra Fortress Smash: Again, all the character (Cap, Hulk, Quicksilver) were there in this scene. Yes, the tower is a poor stand in for the castle, and the vehicle has as much screen time as the earlier one in the smaller set. Its kind of a shame that they focused on two Hydra attack sets instead of focusing elsewhere, but I guess they didn't want to give away too much of the movie.

Avengers Tower: The tower did have a couple of major scenes take place there, and the Iron Legion figs fit right in, although it would've been nice to have some other characters too, since most of the major ones (and a bunch of the minor ones) were there at some point. Yes, the set is small and not as spectacular as the building in the film, but I don't mind that because it's not blowing the bank.

Quinjet City Chase: While the Quinjet appeared quite a bit throughout the movie (did they have more than one?) this scene with the truck chase is well developed. Okay, the truck's punier here, but all the essentials are there. Except Iron Man was not in the scene; Hawkeye was the one piloting the Quinjet while Black Widow and Cap did the fighting. So maybe including Hawkeye, and/or the Korean Scientist lady would've been nice.

But one last thing: Not once, NOT ONCE, in the movie did any of the heroes jump onto some plastic lever and use it to launch themselves up into the air. Those Super Jumpers are totally wrong, and I can't believe one was included in each set when they never even appeared in the movie. Disappointing on many levels.

Anyway, good movie, glad I saw it. Based on first impressions, not necessarily my favorite Marvel movie (that might go to Winter Soldier, and even the first Avengers was a bit better) but still a very good movie, especially for all the characters it managed to handle, and all of the future plot lines it left for future films.

Some of the Ultron-bots didn't have full legs, which was kinda like the way the Lego ones split apart. So that kinda worked.

And when the shielding thing showed up I leaned over to my brother and went "That's in the Lego set!"

Whedon said that Coulson isn't coming back to the movies anytime soon since his death was so important to the team and they don't want to undermine that.
