physics?

What is your favourite physics branch and why? (if you don't like physics, feel free to replace that with science in general =D)

As for me, it has to be material physics, or in general anything that involves low-dimensional stuff like graphene and carbon nanotubes, for the potential technical applications are super interesting (flexible, transparent electrodes! Awesome.) and I find the methods cool (strain experiments in material physics, for example). ^_^

Definitely quantum physics. It's just fascinating to delve into the most fundamental particles which make up our universe. And also really complex and obtuse, but that's part of the fun.

Shame I wasn't very good at other areas of physics. Might have been nice to take it in university.

I don't know much about physics or any science really. I have always found Biology and zoology interesting, though. I was never very good at them, though. XD

Quantum mechanics and wave physics for me. Waves explain a lot of phenomena: sound, light, quantum particles, earthquakes, sonic booms, ...

Also, quantum mechanics is incredibly counter-intuitive and yet is how everything fundamentally works, which is super neat, and on large scales it cancels out to produce what we call classical physics. It's really awesome. ^_^

I find all modern physics fascinating, but my primary focus is in astrophysics and astronomy. My main areas of interest are exoplanets, dark matter and high-density astrophysics. I'm currently doing my undergrad in astrophysics and will probably specialize in one of those three areas afterwards.

On the slightly more far-fetched side of things is warp theory, which is a legitimate branch of physics that NASA is researching. Designing a functional Alcubierre Drive, if it's even possible, would be my dream.

Nuclear physics. Who knew a cobalt bomb could be worse than a normal thermolnuclear bomb because of the fallout. A cobalt-59 bomb would result in an increase in the intensity of radiation from decay because of its long half-life. The radioactive fallout from a cobalt bomb would last for a century compared to normal nukes which last a month or two. Fun fun fun!

You know, I say that the username that I got in Lego Universe* was completely random, but it wasn't all the way. =P

*QuantumMetalBrick, if you didn't know
