BrickCon Pictures

Alright, time for the recap!

Getting to Seattle was difficult, mostly because Akaku and I didn't have access to my car -- and in any case, I had no experience driving downtown. We wound up taking a bus or two. Not the most efficient, or comfortable, way, but it got us there.

Things seemed both a bit packed and yet not as packed this year. Lots of impressive MOCs, though! Special note to a remote-controlled R2-D2, and a remote-controlled mouse droid (those rolling toaster ovens that ran around on the Death Star).

The Bionicle table was a lot smaller this year, and not in its usual place of mid-back (more like the back-back). There was a lot of cool MOCs but - somewhat worryingly - no members hanging around. (We got to the hall at around 11:50.)

After some heartbreaking moments of concern that we were the only members there -- eureka! We found one!

We had a lovely chat, and -- our hope restored -- we went on the hunt again. And we found more!

We all had a chat, a couple of the metal pieces I brought with me got passed around (my bronze Shelek, and my Kohrak-Kal ring), and then -- the fire alarm got pulled.

Lovely.

We regrouped outside, and met up with Cederak and Ezorou. After a few moments getting acquainted, we decided to take our unscheduled break to get lunch at the Armory. We spent about 1.5 hours eating and chatting together, then returned to the convention hall.

Fortunately, during the break, more members came out of the woodwork.

We had a great time, but with the end of the con day coming up (and my getting dizzy), we needed to get going. I took one last picture, then headed to find the bus home.

All in all, despite issues with the transportation and finding other members, this was probably the best BrickCon I've ever gone to! Can't wait until next year! ^^

EDIT: The Brickshelf gallery I put all the pictures in is now public!

The reason you had trouble finding us is that most of us don't like hanging around for the public hours. Too many people. :P I guess it was also lunch time when you arrived.

That R2-D2 was the bane of our existence this year and last. It's an impressive build (although it's important to note that it's really a wooden frame with a Lego shell) but it's annoying to be around. When it won People's Choice we let out a collective groan, and there was talk of giving it a good kick but that probably wouldn't have gone over well. :P

Also, the guy in the green hoodie talking with xccj is Based Goomy, and the tall guy beside Breann in the last picture is The 1st Shadow.

Clearly BZP members need a secret handshake.  Or you could just shine a light with a silhouette of Hapori Tohu at the ceiling.

The other reason you won't find a lot of BIONICLE folks at the tables is because they haven't been giving them real table space the past several years, and being in the spot in the back doesn't allow for sitting around and hanging out, which is one of the biggest detriments for that con to me.

Funny; when I was there, I was thinking myself "that R2 is cool and all, but that thing would bug the heck out of me if I had to be near it for a few hours"... Guess ill have to get used to it, If its still there next year, as I'm thinking of signing up for the entire thing!

Also, as fern somewhat mentioned, it was indeed quite difficult to find the bionicle table; we were surprised with just how small it was, hopefully with the story's return we'll see more space for them again in the future :P

EDIT: Just thought of something, SPIRIT: Why don't we all just do the toa fist-bump? :P

The Bionicle table has been in the back for a few years, and has gotten smaller, although it was less crowded this year because Kopakanui wasn't there to fill it up with his amazing MOCs. And one reason you didn't see some of us in the morning was cause we made a Lego store run. (Worked out well since we totally got to skip the fire drill.)

Glad you guys could show up. Maybe next year we can actually organize something with the member; it was a little low key for us this year!

(Also, the fat guy in the red shirt talking to Riley is me! Yay I exist!)

@Letagi: That might explain things. Didn't know that the R2 unit was there last year (then again, I haven't been reading recaps, or going to the con, since 2012), so hopefully we'll have something new to be roaming the area next year. Thanks for the corrections!

@SPIRIT: I'm liking the Tohu-signal.

@DV: That would do it. Unfortunately I won't be making it to one of the other Brick conventions in the near future, so I'll have to make do with what we have. Hopefully the reboot will help get us a bigger table.

@Akaku: Walking around with our fists extended might get a little awkward. Especially since there's a lot of other people in the hall with us.

Maybe we should design some custom nametags and distribute them through this site?

@xccj: It was pretty low-key, especially in comparison to the other BrickCons I've been to in the past. That said, it was still probably one of the best BC's I've been to, so maybe low-key is the way to go =P

In other news, the Brickshelf gallery I uploaded my pictures to is now public!

Somehow I escaped having my soul stolen by photography. MUAHAHAHA!

But seriously it's a bummer we didn't see more of you guys! I will admit that I avoided the hall pretty fervently this year, and in general this con was kind of a mood gutter for me this time around. Hopefully we will get a better chance to meet properly if you come to a full convention in the future. ^^ You should try BricksCascade if you can! Very similar talent level in MOCs, many of the same people and more, more space/less public clutter, and a fantastic return on investment with free Lego.

Also, no one seemed to have plans for the 'sign-in sheet' so I still have it and am not sure what to do with it.

A shame. Where is BricksCascade, anyway? I mostly go to BrickCon because it within driving distance.

As for the sign-in sheet, I guess snap a picture or two and send it to xccj? =P

BricksCascade is in the Portland Convention Center - Portland, OR. So it's a bit more of a drive, but hotels and such are cheap enough if you coordinate with other people (which a lot of us do in the Convention section of these forums in the weeks leading up to them).
