Finally Saw the Force Awakens

Inferna Firesword

I am now free from spoilers.

(Though the most I got from trawling tumblr was that Kylo Ren out-wangsted Anakin.)

Tagged for those who haven't seen it, my thoughts.

-I liked Kylo Ren as a villain right until he impaled Han. Now I want him to die in all the fires.

-I'm sad that Captain Phasma wasn't as prominent as I hoped. Thank goodness she's confirmed for a larger role in the sequel. Maybe as a Dragon-like character?

-I wish Maz Kanata (the little old orange lady that says Chewie's her boyfriend) did more. Hopefully she'll come back for the next couple movies.

-I wholeheartedly ship Rey, Finn, and Poe together.

-I'm not sure about the theory that Rey is a Skywalker. It would explain how strong in the Force she is, but it seems really out of character for Luke, Leia, or Han to abandon their child.

-I want more backstory on that village in the beginning. How did that old man have the piece of the map, and know of the Skywalker history so intimately?

-Favorite joke: the two stormtroopers walking away while Kylo Ren tears apart the interrogation cell. "Screw this, we're outta here!"

-That ending scene with Rey and Luke went on a bit too long for my liking.

There's already a fair amount of EU that explains the old guy. Apparently he was a member of the Church of the Force. Plus I think the implication is that if Rey is Luke's daughter, he didn't know she was alive.

Spoiler

-If Rey is Luke's daughter, I don't find it hard to imagine that he sent her to Jakku to distance himself from her, because he was so distraught with himself after his disastrous attempt to train new Jedi. He might have thought himself a terrible teacher after Kylo Ren's betrayal, and decided that it would be better for Rey to grow up on Jakku, living a tough and humble life (like how he himself grew up on Tatooine) instead of growing up knowing she was special and powerful. Thus she would be less tempted to join the Dark Side.

-I like to think that after Kylo Ren's first tantrum, a Special Order of the Day went out to all the Stormtroopers telling them not to disturb Ren when he's in a bad mood. :P

-I still don't buy the theory that Rey is Luke's daughter. But if he is, I demand that Rey and Leia call him out on abandoning her.

-Its probably Standard Operating Procedure. Kinda like the 'don't protest if Darth Vader is Force Choking an incompetent underling' rule of thumb the Empire seemed to have. =P
