It Just Keeps Going 2 (The Exhaustion Is Real)

Yeah, ranting about Bleach again. Maybe I should just come up with a standard title for these entries so those skimming by know what it’s going to be without actually looking…oh, what if I did one every week and called it Laundry Day? You know, cause…you use bleach…in laundry…

Last week’s chapter was beyond irritating, but since some awesome stuff happened in Kingdom Hearts Unchained X I made an entry about that instead. However it became apparent I still wanted to vent so I typed this out anyway.

It started off showing us the new Tensa Zangetsu! It was…a little underwhelming. I mean to be fair, Tensa Zangetsu was never the flashiest bankai, that’s what made it stand out, but the new one just seemed a little too similar to its previous shikai to me. Plus, it only seemed to affect one sword, not the other or Ichigo’s outfit—so maybe the second sword has a different release? I think that one was supposed to be his Quincy powers, so it wouldn’t really be a bankai, would it…? I don’t know.

But, hey, it could still be cool, right? We’ll never know because King Quincy immediately snaps it in two.

Doesn’t even actually do it, really, turns out he has the power to not only see the future, but control the future. So he can just hop over to a different future where Tensa Zangetsu is broken to completely neutralize the threat.

So this guy was already completely freaking broken, and now we’re taking the completely broken power of Tsukishima, making it even worse, and giving it to King Quincy on top of everything else.

That’s a fantastic idea!

Invincible final bosses are one thing, but this is just flat out ridiculous. At least there’s a new chance for Orihime to pull through (her powers sound like they should be able to counter this, but I guess we’ll see), and speaking of Tsukishima this might be a good time to bring him back after showing him briefly a hundred or so chapters ago. But my gosh. This isn’t even a fight, this is just Ichigo trying to power up and King Quincy revealing higher levels of his powers with every attempt and barely even moving. But I guess I shouldn’t really be surprised, this is sort of on par with Ichigo’s previous fights with would-be final bosses (the Aizen fight was eh, and the fight with Ginjo was a little anticlimactic).

So now we have this week’s chapter, further showing how Ichigo and Orihime aren’t doing anything against King Quincy, and also showing Uryu doing really poorly against his opponent. Something interesting: they reveal the new power King Quincy gave to Uryu, which lets him reverse a situation. (His opponent was fine and he was cut and bloodied, he used this power and he became fine while his opponent became cut and bloodied.) Of course, his opponent’s power is still working well against that…though he does stop and say “Wow this could maybe even hurt King Quincy if you were fighting him haha I’m gonna kill you now.”

Huh. Well then forget what I said about Orihime having a chance to pull through. I guess having a power that seems like a logical counter and has been built-up over the whole series but never fully utilized is completely irrelevant when we can give a totally new power out of the blue to The Rival!

You deserve so much better, Orihime, I’m so sorry you’re in a shounen manga.

Anyway it ends with King Quincy grabbing Ichigo and saying he’s gonna take back the power he gave him. It’s not clear if he’s just trying to take Ichigo’s Quincy powers or all Ichigo’s powers, but maybe we’ll find out soon? Who knows. Despite myself, I can’t help but wonder if something interesting could come of this. Near-death tends to bring out Ichigo’s Inner Hollow, which could be nostalgic if nothing else, and I would really, really like to see old man Zangetsu fight against King Quincy since he’s decided to be loyal to Ichigo instead. That would make me so happy. It’s probably not gonna happen.

I guess best case scenario here is Chad shows up to save Uryu (because he hasn’t gotten to do anything important EVER, Chad deserves better), Gerard gets obliterated (I don’t care how just get him out of here), Hollow Ichigo and old man Zangetsu save Ichigo and power him up to full, and Orihime counters King Quincy’s powers and they kill him and it’s all finally over.

Anyway I’ll see you in three years when King Quincy and Aizen are tossing Ichigo back and forth like a ping-pong ball, Chad and Orihime have been killed off, and Kubo himself appears in the manga to save the day and start a twenty year spin-off.

There is a point where any form of media should just realize it's no longer in it's prime. The Simpsons, Naruto... Other shows whose name eludes me at the moment.

See! This is the exact point. They just don't know when the stop. They get a taste of money, and they just keep kicking the poor dead horse until it's just a pile of mush.
