so now that faber's gone radio silent on it for a bit...what was up with that whole thing? is he trying to pitch the concept to lego to do a second bionicle reboot, or was he supposedly hinting at an already in-progress one? or was it tied to rebel nature and just a means of bringing attention to his original work? the logo he showed obviously spelled out 'bionicle' and the artwork sure *looked* like bionicle

i guess we'll find out in 2020, i'm expecting disappointment

I mean, I'm pessimistic, but I'm going to hazard a guess that it's more focused on Rebel Nature, and any relation to Bionicle is to troll us / get our attention and try to direct it to his new project.  (Okay, he's probably not trolling us, but I'm sure its a clever marketing move to get fans of the old franchise interested in this new thing.  I've already seen advertising for the Rebel Nature show pointing out it's roots to Bionicle, so I can see them trying to use it for all its worth.)  But honestly the best bet would be to wait and see. :shrugs:

unfortunately this is the same thought i've been having, would be a bit...dishonest if that's the case but not surprising and based on the traffic the instagram posts got, it seems to be working

but yeah, wait and see. i'm still erring on the side of caution

To be perfectly honest Faber doesn't appear to be baiting the community out of deceptiveness but out of pure naivete. It seems to me like he genuinely believes we would be interested in his new projects, hence all the talk about "letting go of the past" and "fueling the future" and whatnot.

Who knows, we very well may love what he has in store but I've got a feeling he's inadvertently setting himself (and the community) up for a lot of disappointment.

this definitely feels more likely, it'd be a shame for it to turn out that way and have people put him on blast for supposedly leading them on about another bionicle reboot when that wasn't his intention

In case this wasn't clear, btw, he already confirmed in the comments that this isn't Bionicle.

He tries very hard to keep his replies as vague as possible so as not to explicitly deny anything, but he did at least once clearly state that this isn't Bionicle and that he isn't "bringing anything back" but rather "looking forward."

i've not seen this since navigating the comments on instagram posts is almost impossible forme but i'm not surprised--doesn't exactly explain the tease with the letters, though, or why he's presenting it in a way that can be so easily misconstrued. why be so vague and teaser-y about it in the first place?

definitely a 'read the room' moment it seems

EDIT: i saw the comment now. still confusing, him talking about 'funding' and the name having to evolve and the like. no idea at this point what he's getting at

IMO, the tease with the letters was just that. A tease.

He spelled out "BIO/3IO" as if to refer to 3rd wave of BIONICLE but vaguely enough so that he can later say he'd meant the "spiritual" successor to BIONICLE in a much broader sense. I'm betting he'll say the whole thing stood for "bio" as in "biology" as in "environment" and the the "on" post just meant that that the whole thing was just on lol.

I don't exactly blame him. You may have heard the stories about the origins of the Toa canisters? Faber was taking cancer treatment in the form of capsules which he imagined contained small warriors that battled the illness. Which is essentially the entire premise of G1. Warriors in capsules battling the internal disease of a giant sentient being.

If he's starting from a similar point and building something altogether different, I could dig that. I could dig that a lot, in fact. The man seems very capable. But he's an art director and he'd definitely need a more experienced story team, no matter where he decides to take this new project/IP.

i am very fine with the idea of a spiritual successor with the same concept that inspired g1, that'd honestly be better than another bionicle reboot overall and it makes sense he'd revisit an old idea and make something new out of it

i'm sure if the idea works out he'd get a dedicated story team to help. i wonder if his goal is to make a show, like rebel nature, or something else? at this point we're back at the 'wait and see' portion of things. good thing 2020 isn't so far off now i suppose
