Fear Of Heights

I was about to title this entry "Just Shaved!" because I haven't shaved since last Saturday.

Anyway, I'll address everyone's comments here. Thanks a bunch!

Scout Camp Henson, part of DelMarVa council, was great! The best part was COPE (Challenging Outdoor Personal Experience) in which we did mind games (I'll post one soon), low ropes/ground team-building games, and high ropes of a rock wall, a giant ladder, a cool rope/thingy obstacle course, and a rope bridge leading to a zip wire (the zip wire is what makes everything worth it). Now, with this entry's title, I'm not the most relaxed when it comes to high stuff. Which is half of why I took COPE. The other half is I enjoy doing the high stuff that I can do. I know I'm strapped in which makes everything safe, so I just do it and have fun freaking myself out. (I don't like roller coasters though)

COPE also had a game where we got clothes pins and were to go around sticking them on all the other campers. Really fun, especially when you see the guy you pinned a couple hours later and they still have the pin stuck to them. It's also fun hearing a guy go "hey! How'd that get there?" One rule: if you get caught you have to take it back. But it's fun!

As far as disrespectful scouts go, they kept it up. My scout master is someone who wants all scouts in scouting and doesn't want to kick out the bad apples. Thing is, those bad apples ruin the activity for everybody else. The totally screwed around the dinner tables when staff waitered one night, and it took half an hour to clean it up. But enough on the bad stuff. (Bundalings, I wish I could kick them out of the troop)

As far as Wednesday night with the rain, I've noticed it almost always rains on Wednesday at summer camp. I don't think that's changed except once. And if the rain starts on Tuesday night and continues after midnight, that counts. It's really fun to walk around in the rain, because your rain gear keeps you dry!

xccj: yeah, crazy flamethrowers, really unsafe, really stupid...

"No cotton" What's crazy is that my council (NCAC: National Capital Area Council) also says no cotton (I bring almost all cotton...) yet they always have cotton shirts for activities such as scout camps, venturing eco-challenge, and Philmont. If they gave us a polyester Philmont shirt I wouldn't have to go buy a third poly shirt. Sometimes adults don't make sense.

Being on a computer at camp? Yeah, the camp has computers. They need them for Computer and Photography Merit Badges in the morning, but after that they're available for Merit Badge use after lunch and internet stuff after 8 PM. This is the only camp that has this that I know of. Pretty sweet!

It's bittersweet. I'm no longer SPL, so I don't have to deal with those guys, but I'm still in scouts, and am willing to help out, especially since I still need my Eagle Badge. Thing is, I'm a rising senior, so while I've put scouts first I want to get back to life and...say, go to Homecoming, Anime USA, and WAMALUG things and Murphy's law will make all the campouts over all those events. But I'll help out as long as I'm not in direct contact with those troublemakers. I'm relieved to get rid of all that responsibility, but at the same time that means I don't have that power!

We'll see what happens. But my last summer camp was a blast! If you are in the Virginia, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Delaware, West VA regions; or just like to travel far for summer camps, then I would totally recommend Henson! (for COPE) And Rodney! (for an awesome sailing program) Search for that because I blogged about that last year.

Oh, one final note: a fellow SPL and I MCed the closing campfire. Oh, also, there was an OA ice cream social one night. Does your camp do that?
