Bibliotheca Arpyandria

I recently went through the mini-library contained within my closet, and, after clearing out some of the books, decided to post the survivors here so you can see the sort of things I like to read. (Disclaimer: Some of these may not actually reflect my current tastes, since I might have left them on the shelf due to some sort of nostalgic feeling gained from the impact they had on me when I was younger.) It’s an eclectic mix, to say the least. There are Newbery Medals and Honors, cheap ‘80s and ‘90s sci-fi paperbacks, serious books, humourous books (Yay British spelling), dreadfully thick novels and nonfiction, and oh, about 140 Star Trek paperbacks. And then there’s the books scattered about the house and the ones I get from the library from time to time, which aren’t listed.

Anyway, here’s the list. I’ve encased the titles in acronym tags with the author’s name in them. They’re in order, left to right, descending from the top of my shelves, and mostly alphabetized by the author’s last name.

I’d be interested to compare my collection with other people’s personal libraries, so take the time to inventory yours and post it here or in your blog! Please?

I've only heard of the Hitchhiker's Guide, I am America, the Bionicle books, the Hobbit, and the Get Fuzzy books.

And the Far Side stuff.

What, no LOTR?

BtB

Edit: And Calvin and Hobbes.

I've read the Bionicle ones, Running out of Time, The Phantom Tollbooth, A Wrinkle in Time (need to read A Wind in the Door, et all), The Screwtape Letters, Harry Potter, Holes, the Little Prince, The Hobbit, and Calvin and Hobbes.

Maybe I should pick up I Am America, but I know very little about Colbert and his humor.

I think I'll inventory my collection....

What about the rest of the H2G2 books? So Long, and Thanks for All the Fish and Mostly Harmless? Or Young Zaphod Plays It Safe? Of course, that's been edited in America due to.... insulting a president. You can get a paperback of the Ultimate H2G2 at Barnes and Noble for $18.95.

My favorite books list would take up way too much space. It's roughly a googol characters long.

How is it that you have Out of the Silent Planet and Perelandra but not...whatever the third one is called?

Lundabings: No LotR. They're right up there with Wuthering Heights on my list of books that I actively loathe reading due to boringness. The Hobbit isn't nearly as bad.

Karzahni's Servant: Alas, would that I had a Barnes & Noble within less than 2 hours' driving time! But I don't like those two as much as the first three, and I can get them from the library anyway.

Nukora: It wasn't with the other two when I bought them from a thrift store, and I can get it from the library.

Yeah, the end of Mostly Harmless is a little.... anti-climactic. Try finding The Salmon of Doubt at a library; it's his biography. And part of a new H2G2 book...
