Besides, Spanish came from Latin, as did French and other Romance languages. I once grabbed some kid's Spanish homework and I could roughly read the first paragraph.

 

... and yeah, they do teach Latin in modern high schools. Like mine.

There is no oral component in Latin. We're never required to speak it, or take oral tests.

We spend our time translating works of classical literature and poetry.

 

Also, of all the world language APs in our school, the only 5 came from AP Latin. And there were like, ten people in that class.

I'll take a modern language in college. Right now Latin is getting me ahead in English class and providing me with an extra AP course on my transcript.

 

... not to mention that I'm getting a recommendation letter from my Latin teacher.

My Chinese has gradually deteriorated with disuse.

 

I can still understand it pretty well, but I can't read half what I could read three years ago, and I'm a bit slow in speaking.

 

If I go to a Chinese restaurant I'd prolly order in English. My parents would order in Chinese though.
