Shapeshifters And Other Stuff

-- I have been getting this Q a lot, so let me answer it here -- no, the shapeshifters mentioned in Empire of the Skrall are not Makuta, proto-Makuta, Krahka, or anything else from 2001-2008. Remember that Mata Nui created the Makuta, who then created the Rahi, so neither ever existed on Bara Magna.

-- Looks like I will be appearing at New York Comic-Con in Manhattan on Saturday, February 7th, in the afternoon at the Papercutz booth. More details as I get them.

-- I am working on a six-part story for AMEET, the people who did the Makuta Guide for Poland last year, which will run through the six activity books they are doing for 2009 BIONICLE. It's called "The Crossing" and deals with a dangerous trek through the Black Spike Mountains and over the Dark Falls made by Gresh, Strakk and two Agori.

-- The Tales From the Crypt comic with my story, "Murder M.A.I.D.," comes out this coming Wednesday.

I might just come to the Comic-con! Do you know what part of the city it's gonna be located in?

.:Diamond:.

Weird, I feel like I'm being stalked somehow.

And who is the second Agori?

1) New York Comic-Con is at the Javits Center in Manhattan

2) No, the MLN character is not appearing in the AMEET story. And so far as I know, AMEET does not have the rights to publish in English-speaking countries, though my info may be out of date there. I know they do not have US rights, because Scholastic does.

Interesting. :)

The Crossing story sounds good. And it has a nice title, too. 'The Crossing'. Love that.

Also, I've never read any of your other stories before. :( I should really get round to it, as they sound interesting.

I read a book called "The Crossing" a while ago. Maybe you could change the name to avoid legal trouble? :shrugs:

Anyways, it sounds like a good story, and I knew those Shapeshifters were not anything from 2001-2008, since Lego is trying to avoid that.

Also, are the shapeshifters Great Beings or something from Bara Magna? Are they going to be sets?

1) No, the shapeshifter are not Great Beings -- Great Beings are not by their nature violent, so would not have attacked Skrall.

2) You can't copyright a title, so titles can be reused over and over. You could do a BIONICLE story called "Gone with the Wind" or "Casablanca" if you wanted to. The only exception is names that ended up becoming franchise names, like Star Wars, and got trademarked by their owners.

Yes, but couldn't their nature have changed? Great Beings as we know Great Beings are creators, but that was only briefly and 100,000 years ago. As far as we know they could have devolved like the Vorox did, but into savage, vicious, and destructive shape shifters. It's possible (but highly improbable, though).

I think they were too civilized to do that.

Ehh, the guy who invented the great beings says it's not them, seems proof enough to me

Virokann -- Good question. New York Comic-Con is not a LEGO event -- we won't have a booth there, so sets won't be on display. I will be with the Papercutz people, who do the graphic novels, promoting their books.

Hey Mr. Farshtey,

are these shape shifters related to the shape shifter, Krahka, from Metru Nui? It seemed kinda odd that she was the only one of her species. Could she had been transported to Mata Nui some how?

No, cause her whole species except her was wiped out by Visorak. They were always in Mata Nui. They were Rahi.

I see. Then could her species have been transported?

No, they're creations of Mata Nui, Greg said no, and Krakha is the only one left, cause they were wiped out by the Visorak.

The shapeshifters are NOT anything from 2001-2008. No exceptions. They are completely new. Seeing as the guy who invented the GB's says so.
