Mata Nui? I don't think he's awesome-- he does have some spots where the color scheme could be better, although I like the overall color choice. Say what you will about yellow-orange representing gold, but the way I see it that's what it's represented in most sets besides Toa of Stone and Po-Matoran. I don't mind the new Ignika, either-- I wonder why people didn't complain about the roundness of the mask on the Mistika canisters? The torso is kind of repetitive (*sigh*), but is just a minor disappointment. Blue eyes are a nice touch, the weapon is clever, and really I haven't found all that much to complain about.

 

I haven't done too much scanning of fan opinions outside the blogs, but I saw at least one person state that they'd have preferred a female Vorox. To which I respond, how do you know the one in the set isn't female? Those are fairly shapely thighs, combined with a thin waist, a gently curved torso, and a gender-ambiguous mask. The entire set's fairly androgynous--in fact, if it weren't for the width of the shoulders and bulk of the upper arms I'd say it definitely leans towards female. Swap the mask for that of Zesk and the clarity comes that much sooner.

 

Another person recommended a Vorox pack leader, which makes more sense than the aforementioned musing, but nevertheless seems unnecessary in a culture so unlike caste-based colonial species like ants or bees. Perhaps the chief Vorox smells different than the others or something, but I don't see why dramatic armor differences would have been necessary.

 

And forgive me for this rant-- I've been waiting a few days to get that out. *wonders if my assumption about the entry's meaning was correct or if I just ranted about something completely unrelated to the topic at hand*
