Notes From Billund

One more day left in my BIONICLE week in Billund, and thought I would share some notes:

-- Piraka are doing very well, outselling the Toa Hordika and Visorak from 2005. Everyone is very pleased about that.

-- Saw the first Toa Inika commercials yesterday, which were just great. Very different, but still true to the feel of the characters and what they can do.

-- Got some details on some big promotions and some big web news you will be hearing about in the coming weeks.

-- Saw the whole range of 2007 sets for the first time -- they blow away anything ever done for BIONICLE, individually and as a group. The most differentiated sets we have ever done, they make the 2001 Toa look like clone sets. I was impressed with the Piraka when I first saw them, but if the 2007 sets are a sign of the future of BIONICLE, the future seems very bright.

-- Lots of story discussion on Wednesday. As usual, the story team fought a lot :) Wouldn't be a story meeting if we didn't, because everyone involved in BIONICLE gets very passionate about it.

-- Found out that as of the end of 2005, over 600,000 BIONICLE books have been sold and 11 were on Barnes and Noble's Top 500 list. Sales are a wee bit softer this year, which is to be expected after a series has been running this long -- but the books are now making it into more places, like Spain and France, with activity books slated for a lot of other places -- so go buy books :)

Go buy some books?

Goes and buys every Bionicle book in exsistance.

But on a more serious note, that seems odd, or at least for me, seeing as I'm getting more books than usual this year...

And 2007 sounds like it's going to be an excelent year! Man, Bionicle just keeps getting better and better...

Stop torturing us with these oh-so tantalizing hints...are you getting paid to make us want 2007 more than any other year yet? And could you tell us by how much the Piraka have outsold 2005 sets?

August, as their release date is then. We wil probably see Titan and Playset commercials as well.

Oh, and..

Me at Book Store: BUT I NEED ALL OF THEM!! THE AUTHOR TOLD ME TO!!!

Employee: No. Leave some for the rest.

I'll try. I'm trying to finish up my BIONICLE Book Collection..

I can imagine 2007 Sets now.. Inika Nuva (Non-Ugly, Old Color Schemes they had as Matoran) and I can't really describe the Villians well.

Books being available in more places is always a good thing, but if you're like me, living in New Zealand, there's always Amazon. Which is why my collection has everything up to the Dark Hunter's guide except the sticker book.

I'm so glad LEGO has cleaned up the sets. Although the Inika have finally grown on me, I knew we were bound to appreciate anything from next year, but sets that make the Olda look bad? This I gotta see, but I'm afraid that by the time I see them I'll be too excited and they won't be as good as I expect.

I highly doubt it will be easy to willingly dodge the leaked pics at the end of the year.

Toa are getting old, I think there is something else they will be selling. ;)

I will try not to get too excited about 07, though this Blog is making that extremely difficult for me. I am more excited about new recent Web news. The fact the the VNOLG was advertised to be released on Bionicle.com around now is making me more excited, but I can't be sure.

Nice. So what do you think of the small 2007 sets? Are they anything special or just your average impulse buys?

:m: :e: :c: :a:

I just finished Bionicle Legends #2 Dark Destiny and it was so cool! I like how you put Lewa saying. "Great, another one. We are going to fight six Matoran all day while the Piraka wander free." That just got me! Ha ha! :superfunny: Great job Greg! Keep it up!

Sets have to be done early, because you need them to show to licensees, you need art of them for book covers, you need to start making posters and standees and other things like that for stores for next year. Now we have to start on 2008!

Greg

Whoa! So you have probably just finished 2007.

Book sales are going down? From what I have seen, they are going up but Statistics don't lie.

Looking Forward to 2007!
