Binky's New Job
I start a new job next Monday. It's a 3-month contract gig, boring yet well-paying, that may be extended in February '07. It's a little nerve-wracking going to a job where I don't know what's going to be happening in a few months, but now is a very good time for me to get the heck outta where I've been working for the last 5 years. And the job market for what I do is looking up, so I'm not too worried.
My new job probably won't allow me the latitude to go onto BZP during the day, as I've had the opportunity to do for the last half-decade, not that that should mean much. But if there's a catastrophic failure, I probably won't see it until I get home after 6 p.m. weeknights. I doubt there'll be much problem with me not being able to monitor the site in real-time, but this is just a CYA-type of heads-up.
So, I'll be bouncing around a little bit for a while, and there are also a couple of other things looming on my AFOL radar that will start taking more time. Hopefully we can keep BZP running smoothly with regular database optimizations so my presence (or lack thereof) won't make a difference.
Anyway, guess it's time for me to figure out what I want to be when I grow up. I'm not gonna find the perfect job that lets me change the world (since my wife won't move to Denmark), but my new goal is to earn enough to keep my family happy and healthy - as well as letting me buy some plastic bricks once in a while.
