The Old Rag

I've finally hiked it!

For those not in my area of the country:

The Old Rag is a very popular trail to hike [especially among scouts] in the Shenandoah mountains, in northernish Virginia.

It was a 7.5 mile hike, but took almost 5 hours because before the middle of the hike is climbing up and through and around rocks, sometimes having to take off your backpack and work with your fellow hikers to get up and stuff.

I went with my dad and brother. I'd show you some photos, but since majhost is down...

Some people, however, can see them. *tehe.png*

I've heard that is probably for the better. On the days when it is really packed (like the Hike-o-ree (done that!)) those climbing areas are really backed up.

I'd suggest plan a trip with your troop some other time.

We are planning a trip for this year, the problem is, my troop is very new. There's only about four 'older' guys, so the cooler trips are far and few between.

Mount Baldy wasn't bad. Just tall and long.

Sheesh, Philmont is great!

Eeko, a simple day hike trip to a local trail/mountain like this isn't too hard to plan. I guess you'll need some older scouts to lead it, and some adults to drive and be adults, but I'll bet a lot of good hiking scouts could do this, even if their 1st and 2nd years.

My legs felt like jello as we crested Baldy, but it was some of the most fun I had at Philmont. Like, ever.

Plus, we beat our sister crew and got most of the day off for rest. And got to redicule the sister crew for getting soaked.

My crew was awesome, and since the sis crew was filled with the arrogant ones, we relished our trekking superiority. *tehe*
