Psionics

As promised, if slightly delayed, here is in the info on Psionics as an MU element:

Colors: Blue and gold

Gender: Female

Prefix: Ce - (pronounced "say")

Matoran Ability: Unable to be mind-controlled or read telepathically -- by studying them, Helryx learned how to shield the minds of the OOMN members from telepathy.

Powers: A Toa of Psionics has the following powers:

* Telepathy

* Telekinesis

* Ability to do a damage-dealing mind blast (mental damage only, not physical)

* Limited mind control (cannot make someone do something that is against their pre-existing moral code)

* Creation of illusions -- so lifelike they can be experienced by all five senses, but cannot fool techological systems

* Ability to mentally mask her presence from bio-mechanical or organic life, but not from technological systems

My thoughts:

I don't really like the colors, as all of the standard elements have one color, blue is already water, and gold is usually an armor color. Cool prefix. Matoran ability is okay... not very exciting. Awesome powers- I believe they aren't too overpowered. Would "mask her presence" mean actually be invisible and such to people or just be undetectable by powers and the like?

Blue and gold? I don't really understand that color choice... To be honest, I was hoping it'd be something even slightly unique like purple and trans blue... Blue and gold just seems a bit overdone.

Blue and gold sounds good to me, of course, purple would had been a really cool colour--in a lot of things purple represents this sort of stuff. I was thinking about the game Guild Wars, in which there is a profession is a 'Mesmer' that holds a lot of these powers, and that colour default from them is purple. Just thinking out loud.

Nice to get some official info on this...it's a very cool power.

Now I know what all those self-styled Toa of Electricity felt like when Nikila was added...

EDIT: Although I'm glad it's at least official that a Toa with these powers exists. It's great for my EM project. And, if we ever meet one, I think they'll make awesome characters.

What are your reasons for the colours? I agree with everything else, but now this means that all three female elements have blue as one of their main colours.

Wow. A certain character in my epic who is a prototype Toa with mental powers just gained a lot more credibility. :D

EDIT: Oh, and the character is even female to boot!

Okay, this element officially WHUPS TUSHIE.

This comment literally made me laugh.

Hard.

And anyway, why "Ce"? Was it just arbitrarily picked?

Awesome element. I am not sold on the colors, however. Purple would've been cool instead of blue and gold.

Edit: Me and Sumiki pretty much posted at the same time. Sumiki, I'm not sure, but I think "Ce" is derived from "Cerebral" or "Cerebelum", those are both of the brain or the mind, I guess.

Blue and gold was suggested by a BZPer a week or two ago. I liked it, so I went with it. Purple is nice too, but I felt there were not enough purple Toa-style pieces in existence to allow for a good MOC of the character.

And it's "ce" as in "cerebral" and "cerebellum"

Called it!

Thanks for the knowledge on this element, but my question is, what was the origin of it? I have never heard it mentioned in the Bionicle story until recently. Can you guys fill me in?

Blue and gold is awesome. Mainly because I own Brutaka. Once I get Stars Tahu, I plan on building an MOC, just for kicks.

Thanks for putting MOCers into consideration, too Mr. Farshtey.

Lol, I had a feeling it would be something along the lines of cerebral, but excellent choice Greg. Blue and gold? Awesome.

Overall, I am most definitely more accepting of this element now.

As a question, would an extremely adept Toa of Psionics be able to break the link between a Toa and their elemental control (at least, until their EE/concentration runs out) or is the connection between that too intricate?

I should have known that.

I had what you call a "brain wussy" moment.

Psionics, I believe, was recently added to the canon after Greg approved its status as an element. Somebody asked him. (Think it was either Erebus or some other Fact Team member.)

Ok. Thanks for telling me that. :)

There are many beings with these "psychic" powers, so maybe grouping them all under one elemental banner is a good idea. Also, we have the birth of a new type of Toa, another female type nontheless. This element is shaping up to be something cool! I hope (along with others, I would imagine), that we get a lot more of those unique types of Toa introduced in some new serials.

Blue and gold's kinda mediocre, I mean blue is already used for water, so it'd be slightly hard to distinguish a Ce-Toa from a Ga-Toa that's wearing gold armor....

Ya, that's what I was thinking. Like say, Gaaki is wearing gold armor like Iruini.

Also, If a toa of psionics was wearing a Suletu, Matatu, Mahiki, or a Komau, would this greatly increase the power of the toa?

Guess who suggested Blue and Gold to Greg? :sly:

Hi, Greg! I just had a couple questions.

1. Could Blue and Gold be the colors for Matoran/Toa/Turaga of Psionics?

2. Is it possible that Lava/Magma is an element?

Thanks! :D

1) I really have given no thought to this at all at this point

2) I don't think so, no

I wasn't expecting colors or Matoran info, very nice.

Although I'm not used to having a Toa who's basically a Kanohi hodge-podge. Correct me if I'm wrong, but a Toa with a Suva and a Matatu, Suletu, Volitak, Mahiki and Komau would be able to do pretty much everything a Toa of Psionics could, only better, right? (Better because of no "organic only" limitations and the Komau beats hypnosis.) Don't get me wrong, I know that in actual practice most Toa don't devote themselves to gathering a Kanohi collection, so it's unlikely you'd find a Toa like that, but still.
