These are not entertaining in the slightest most of the time. Why? Because they almost always become a self-insertion fic in which the writer is somehow a godly being who can do anything without any prior training and isn't afraid of anything in the slightest and is shiny and super-special-awesome, the plots are usually fairly weak, starting with the out-there explanation as to how the canon deviated to earth and just getting worse as time goes on, and the characters are bland. It can be done well, I acknowledge this, but for every good one, there are twenty that fit the above description.
