Gn #8

Got my copy of Papercutz GN #8 in the mail today. I must say, the art is gorgeous, especially on the first story -- really captures that creepy, claustrophobic feel I was going for. At first, I thought they might have overdone the snowstorm, as it makes things kind of hard to see at times .. then I realized that worked, because it IS hard to see in a snowstorm and that is part of what makes the baterra's sudden appearances and disappearances so effective.

Overall, a great job by Christian Zanier.

Uh, assuming Graphic novels count as comics under the spoiler policy, I'd better use a tag just to be safe....

I got my copy yesterday, and I wholly agree with you about the snowstorm effect. My only complaint about it is that it might be annoying for BS01 images of Branar. :P Big props to Zanier and Sayger. =) And you too, Greg, for the script, of course. :P

Hmm, yes the preview at the end of GN#7 did look really cool - the snowstorm thing being effective.

But what I'm really interested in is All Our Sins Remembered, featuring the art of Stuart Sayger. Is it as great as it looks?

While the first comic was indeed impressive, I actually found the second one far better as far as art is concerned. Sayger... well, you know, I kinda disagree with his depiction of

I've got to agree the depiction was way off. Although if I had to guess, it was probably due to improper source materials. Like, they may have given Sayger a model of Glatorian Mata Nui to study rather than concept art of the giant robot. Or, alternatively, Sayger just chose the Glatorian form because it's just easier to study a physical model. Who knows, but I think it was pretty interesting. :P

We saw a preview of the first chapter a while back so it's enough to comment on some of the art.

But yeah, beautiful stuff. The snow was kinda distracting at times, but it was still really crisp, and definitely gave off this sense of panic, I loved it.

Coincidentally, I got my copy today too, and I must agree, the art is gorgeous, and it's especially nice to see more of Zanier's work, having seen the shorter Hydraxon comic. Personally, I like the Skrall story's art the most, as I prefer the colouring Zanier does himself to the less gradiated tones the colourist for the Malum story used.

Regardless, all the art, and indeed the story, is very awesome. Very well done to Greg and the artists on an excellent read!

Hmm... I think I'm going to go check my mailbox right now. Hope I got it!

EDIT: Well, I did get it! :)

And since I don't want to spoil anything, I will only mention one part un-related to the story. I really like the interview that you did at the end, and it was kind of cool how you mentioned BZPower.

Ironic, I got mine too. Though I haven't really taken the time to actually look at it. I just have this little voice telling me to wait, and it'll be better then.

I have gotten GN 9, but not 8 yet. I really cant wait for it, though. Wait, which story in GN 8 does Stuart Sayger illustrate? I thought Christian Zanier was doing ALL the artwork for GN 8.

I thought the art was good too. I think having Sayger illustrate All Our Sins Remembered was a good thing. His style is very dark and goes well with the story.

I think Zanier would have done all three, but didn't have the time. I mean, look at how many times it's been delayed in the past. I think Papercutz really couldn't afford many more delays.

I've recieved it today as well. Quite a short read, but interesting. The art was superb, (and even though I'm not all for Sayger's ELs, the art featured was good too. BTW, someone has to send him some Mata Nui robot concept art, I think :P)

The script? As good as always. I felt as if I was reading more a book than just a comic: it's quite clear that this time there were no rushes in the scripts (I mean, read any of the 2010 comic, it's obiously rushed since it had to be done quickly and feature all story on just 32 pages), so the quality is 100% good.

I really, really hope GN #10 sees the light of day. Really.

PS: Zanier's Tuma is incredibly accureate.
