..........We're great friends and it's been good to be with you. You have been as fun as possible and so have I, and you've all treated me like any other guy. I like to feign happiness and pretend that it's enough, except for one unchangeable fact.
..........I'm not any other guy. I'm female. It's not that I have a crush on anyone, but because I'm a girl I think the world of you boys. I admire you because you're all slightly different from me in a way that I could never become, and it completes me. You never see it because I never show it, afraid that you'll think I'm swooning.
..........I only wish that you could admire me in the same way that I admire you, because I'm different, too. I'm the only girl who hangs around with you guys, and it sets me apart from both genders. It makes me special, and I only wish that you could see it.
..........It's not good enough that I'm special. I want to hear it coming from you because you're the people I care about. When you tell me I'm special, I don't want it to be because I'm a girl or because I'm different, but because I feel alone right now and the feeling is very real to me. I want you to understand that I have my own special emotional needs, and it's not good enough that I'm treated like all the rest of the guys.
..........I want to be treated like me.
Please,
Darlene Conner
