Kenobi Update

A metaphorical spanner has been thrown into the works.

The school photograph which I mentioned approximately two weeks ago, the one in which I announced that I was planning to don my Kenobi gear, did not take place due to the weather (not for no reason was my blog once called "Notes from a Wet Country").

So the promised pictures of the outift would have to wait, if that is what any of you guys were waiting for or are reading this entry for in the hopes of seeing. Give it maybe... six months?

So yeah. No pictures and no "how the day went/other wacky costumes people had brought" report to offer.
But, hey, it's not the end of the world.

Kenobi Costume Test Run

Otherwise known as school photograph.

Tomorrow, I shall exhibit my Kenobi costume during the second of two school photographs. That is, if the weather holds up and everything goes a-okay.

Question which I don't mind if nobody answers; if I do somehow manage to procure pictures of myself in said gear, anyone want to see them?

The Avengers
This entry would have gone out six days ago had the Second Great Dataclysm (AKA hacxorz) not struck.

Oh my Lord. Oh my Lord.
Just how epic is this film?

This film was easily one of the best I've ever seen. It had a coherent plotline, great main actor chemistry (seriously, Evans, Downey Jr. and Hemsworth are amazing in the scenes they share), and it had several hilarious aspects. And don't get me started on the epic fight scene at the end.

This is also the very first Superhero film I had ever seen. That's right; I watched it without seeing Iron Man 1 and 2, Hulk, Thor or Captain America.
I have no regrets.

Hawkeye is my favourite character from the film. He's just so awesome.

Additional: May the 4th be with you, everyone! Be sure to beware of the revenge of the fifth tomorrow!

Additional additional: I have got to get my hands on that LEGO Quinjet Aerial Battle set. That thing is awesome.

Star Wars, Obi-Wan Kenobi Costume and 1 more...
Otherwise known as "the costume group which is not as good as the 501st legion for reputation but they accept Jedi".

And I'm a 'surrogate' (as in still too young to be 'full') member.

It's official. My Star Wars nerd-ness has now truly begun overcoming me.

What would make it truly complete is to actually start an SW-based society.
Which I plan to do.

I don't know whether to be proud or start running.

Force Fx Obi-Wan

Star Wars, Obi-Wan Kenobi Costume
Well, the ROTS Kenobi FX saber arrived today.

First, a bit of boring back-story.I needed a saber for the Kenobi costume to make it complete, intending to buy a £9.99 basic version and metaphorically walked away with £129.99 worth of saber.
Don't ask.

So, what do I think of it?

To quote an oft-quoted phrase: squeeeeeeee

This thing is amazing - nice and bright blue blade when lit, not too heavy, not too bulky a hilt, and an alright weight overall.
The sound is fantastic, although it does need to be swished quite hard to get sound. The same would be true of the clashing sounds, which could lead to a broken LED or several in 'combat'.
But, hey, it's a costume piece - combat isn't my main aim with this, but it's nice to have something that can actually look like a proper lightsaber for once. All my life...

The blade of this version is removable, and by gum I am pleased that some of the sabers in question now have this feature. I don't know about anyone else, but I'd find it hard to walk around with a saber + blade on my belt as one piece.

The stand is awesome. Nifty accessory, and useful for keeping the saber out of the dreaded "cupboard of the dead or otherwise unnecessary lightsabers", which has now gained a sudden and vast population increase.

So that's what's good about the saber. What's bad about it?

Nothing.

Well, that's not true.
Any downsides that I have found weren't with the saber itself, but its presentation: the stickers on the hilt's body. These blighters are a right pain to remove, and leave horrid residue (you can't leave them on either, as this would spoil the look of the saber!). Indeed, I'm worried my attempts to remove said residue has left scars, although this could be un-removed residue: it's quite hard to tell. It's not noticeable, nor is it crucial (yet), but it's a darn sight nicer than sticker-residue. Personally, I'd take "battle scars" any day.

Another downside that isn't to do with the saber itself: The belt clip provided isn't the best. It's very stiff, and it is quite difficult (for me, at least) to get the saber on, and then even more so to get it off. Thankfully, I'd purchased a belt clip with my Obi costume, which is a lot more practical, and also easier to 'use'.

So, this was the long-winded but necessary review of the Force FX Kenobi. I'd recommend a Force FX to anybody who wants one provided they can afford it, as this truly is a must-have accessory for any Star Wars fan. And if Kenobi doesn't make you tick, you've got Luke, Anakin, Mace, Maul, Vader and Kit Fisto (no Plo Koon? D=) sabers to choose from, so plenty of variety!

Final score: 9.5/10

Star Wars, Obi-Wan Kenobi Costume
So today my Obi-Wan Kenobi outfit arrived. :happydance:

I have to say, it's a great costume - very light material for the tunic and a great quality to the whole kit and caboodle.
Admittedly the sleeves of the robe are a tad too long, but that can be overlooked.

Now I need to wait until Monday for the ForceFX Kenobi saber to arrive...

Additional: This is not the blog title you were looking for

Star Wars: The Old Republic

Star Wars, Games, 2011
So I decided to chip in and join the MMO community. What more can I say?

This game does seem an excellent choice for my first MMORPG. It has a great storyline from what I've already seen by way of beta testing videos, excellent graphics, and eight fantastic classes to choose from.

The one thing it has which I do not like is a very, very high download rate per second. So of course, our 400 kilobyte-per-second download speed can't cope with that, and so I can't actually play it. Well, I can play it, but it just goes incredibly slowly, which has resulted in me dying twice on the first mission.

Some MMORPGer I am, then. :P

This is not that much of a problem, however: the game is still young, and we're getting a new service installed on Jan. 14th, which would help every member of my family, and not just me. Our connection speed has been poor at the best of times for the last five years or so, so it's nice to have some prospects of change.

So, if all goes well, the game (and our internet no less!) should be working properly soon into the next year. :)
