OMG SO AMAZING AAAAAAAHSDGFZXXV

Helms Deep
Just finished building the LotR Helm's Deep Set.

:inlove: :OMG: :br:

Oh man, oh man, oh man, such an awesome, awesome set.  Love the curved walls.  Love the many pieces.  Love the minifigs!  If anything, I'm sad that it's so large and full of awesome because I don't have a shelf large enough to display it on.   :(

I also added by Legolas fig (traded from Swert's boss) and my Eowyn fig (custom made by Nuju Metru) to make the castle even more awesome.  Since the orcs were getting outnumbers, I also reinforced their ranks with Serpentine.   :P  But still, the set as a whole is so... SO FULL OF WIN!

Worth not buying any more Lego for the rest of the year?  Totally!!

Series 8 Collectible Minifigures Review

Whew, did it again.  Collectible Minifigure review.  All 16.  This time with more pictures too per fig... added some "group" shots with each one comparing it to a similiar fig.  Lots of writing to make this happen.  Lots of picture taking, picture editing, ext.  (Thank goodness I learned some of the batch features in photoshop, would've been a pain to each one individually instead of the whole group automatically.)  Also, a good bit of coding too.

But yeah, there's Series 8.  Now for Series 9...

Series 8 Minifigs

Posted by xccj , in Review Aug 18 2012 · 121 views

Hey, it's that time again.  I heard internet rumors that series 8 figs were popping up in stores around the US, so I checked out my local Fred Meyers where I can usually get some good deals.  And they had four boxes!  Woot!  (Actually, it sounded like they had 10+ as of a few days ago, but now they're down to four.  There's a rabid AFOL crowd around here, I guess.)  I helped some less-obsessive-than-me people find some of the figs they wanted (specifically, a fairy) and then I looked for some of my own.  Since I really don't have lots of moneys, I limited my take to 6 figs, although I could've probably found a whole batch if I wanted.  (Plus, 20% off coupon for toys... glad I checked the coupon booklet!)

So here's a quick glance at some of the ones I got.  Might do a full review later, depending on if I can collect all of these.

Man-Bat: Pretty cool.  The new arms are awesome, although more of a pain to pose than regular arms due to their angle.  I guess that's a sacrifice to make for the wings.  Yes, I realize it's almost a copy of the ones from the monster fighter sets, but that theme ripped off the Collectible figs pretty badly, so it's payback for Series 8.   :P

Diver: OMG SO AWESOME.  Printing on both front and back of torso, and 2 1x1 tiles on the feet to represent boots.  But the helmet... oh the helmet.  So detailed, and so LARGE.  And I was surprised that there was a glass screen and not just an opening.  Best part; the screen actually magnifies the minifig's face.  I wouldn't say no to getting a couple of duplicates of him.  I expect this one to be the star of the series.

DJ: Detailed tiles are neat.  Although the lettering on the album is pretty illegible, IMO.  (Also, records?  They're certainly appealing to the AFOLs on this one.  Heck, they're even too old for me... a classic would be a cassette tape.)  Hair with headphones is win.  Gonna make a self-fig to represent my sign-off now.   ;)

Conquistador: Another historical fig, and ideally it could be as big as the Spartan or Roman.  But he seems just a tad boring.  Printed armor is great, but the only new mold is the helmet, which isn't super amazing.  Don't get me wrong; its not a bad fig, but I don't think it'll be as popular as the Spartan or Roman.  (See, I guessed that the Gladiator would be the biggest hit and I was wrong, so I don't think this guy will be either now.)

Alien Queen: OMG, so awesome.  Okay, to be fair, no new parts, but lots of new colors.  1x1 round stud in trans pink, which is new to this year (found in a Friends set and a SW set, that's all).  Purple capes, rare and a plus.  Lime alien head has new printing, and the trans skull piece is in trans pink this time.  Plus, solid pink minifig head, first time.  Parts are awesome.  Oh, and I guess the fig looks cool too.  It'll certainly fit in with Alien Conquest.

Fairy: Well, I thought she was most light blue, but here color scheme is closer to medium green.  Cute female face, and I love the trans wings.  Still not a fan of the hair element, but it's in a nicer color this time.  Also not a fan of the skirt, would almost prefer it printed on as opposed to the swimsuit print we get instead.

Anyway, I was able to locate these 6 to 100% accuracy so far, so yay for that.  During my search I also located the evil robot (by his laser bar), pretzel boy (by the pretzel), football player (by his visor), businessman (by his suitcase), cheerleader (by her hairpiece... the pom poms do throw me off), Shakespeare (by the 2 heads and collar), and the pirate (by the feather and cutlass.)  I didn't manage to locate the cowgirl, santa, or the skier (who I want).

Still, I must say that I am impressed with this series.  People seem to complain that it's not up to standards as some of the other waves, but the new parts in the Alien Queen an Fairy plus the amazing details on the conquistador and diver show that this isn't a push-over series.  Sure, some people complain about the repeats.  (Why would you need a second cheerleader... unless she's rooting for the opposing team?)  Some collectors might not want another skier, but people who missed out on the first one or who appreciate the same idea done in a different style can still enjoy it.  And there are still rather original designs like the diver or pretzel boy that continue to make this a cool line.  I'm not going to say it's the best, but I'm far from disappointed with it.

Anyway, I still want the cheerleader, skier, and Shakespeare figs, and then maybe the rest to complete the collection.  I wouldn't say no to a second diver or alien queen either, and I might pick up some extras for trading later on.  (I have a small collection from series 5, 6, and 7 that I've set aside for trades)  Or maybe I'll only get the ones I really want because I am kinda broke right now and should be saving up for Helms Deep instead.

Yay, another Ninjago Review!  Last one from me (for this year at least.)  Unless somebody wants to send me the Ultimate 4-Headed Dragon Battle set to review (and keep.)  That is such an epic set and I want it but I don't really have money and if I do buy a large set this year it's going to be Helms Deep.

Also, with this set I now have Cole ZX, which means that I have a complete set of Ninja.  (Well, missing the green one, if you count him, but I'll grab his spinner pack when it comes out.)  Now... well, I'm kind of eager for a snake army.  Anybody have lots of snake figs they want to get rid of / trade.  And I don't mean a bunch of Rattlas or Snappas... ideally I'd like one of each character, especially the generals, but I'm not willing to buy all the sets or pay the fig prices on Bricklink... so yep, if you have cool snake figs (and maybe want some series 6/7 figs, since I have extras) let me know! :P  (Yeah, this is being hopeful.)

Also, tomorrow, I'll take pictures of and enter my BBC Contest fiery creature.  I'd post WIP images, BUT that would get me disqualified and also require the effort to take said picts.  It is a rider and a steed, so hopefully it'll be allowed.  (I asked like 4 days ago in the contest topic and have not received an answer yet, so if I get disqualified it'll be because of a last minute rule clarification... seriously last minute, since tomorrow is the last day to enter.)

Oh, and also read / view the Lasha's Bite Cycle review.  It's even been Velox-approved!  How many reviews can boast that!?  (None of my other ones, so this is a first for me!)

So... I have a couple of sets to review after my spending spree at Bricks Cascade, and here's the first.  This has pretty much been the one Avengers set I just had to have, and it turns out the truck is just as cool or cooler than the figs!  And you can read all about it on the front page... or rather, just briefly scroll through all the picts.   :P

Collectible Minifigs Series 7

Click for Talkback topic.

Well, I can tell people actually read the review this time because they keep mentioning that "C:\" is actually a directory code and not an emote.  I say it's both, but since I didn't specifically mention it in the review, I keep getting corrections.   :P

But yeah, 16 minifigs reviewed here.  Took a while to collect.  Took a while to write up each individual review.  Took a while to take all the pictures, edit them, and then code them into the review.  It's a long one, but worth it... plus you could even skip over fig selections that you're not interested in and get to the main ones.   ;)

Now it's time to start using these guys in MOCs...

Why Bzpers Loves Lego Friends Figs

Yay, another Lego Friends Review.  I actually got this set and took pictures of it in January, but then I heard DeeVee was gonna write a review so I put it off so he could get his say in first.  (Also, because I didn't want to point out the exact same things.  Now I know that a few of my observations are somewhat original as far as BZP reviews go.)  Last month, I got around to finally writing this review, and now I've posted it.  Yayz.

As for why BZPers should love the new Friends Mini-Dolls... well, click for the next picture.  I put it in a Spoiler tag because it would spoil the best part of the review, IMO.

Spoiler

Anyway, I expect a lot of fallout from this, considering what DeeVee got when he posted his review, so I guess I'll see how people react to my observations.  (Granted, I did already write a long detailed essay on my views of Lego Friends but I'm sure nobody read it because it was too long.  I'll cite it tho in future arguments.   :D )

New In The Talkback Topic

Posted by xccj , in Review Apr 19 2012 · 28 views

So my last review didn't go over very well because of the database issue on the front page.  Bummer.

But with a little bit of code tweaking, I switched it from HTML to BB and now it's good to get posted in the forums!

As such, you can view the full review in the Talkback Topic.  And seriously, I described what I liked and didn't like about it there... if there's gonna be argument over how good it is, I should at least be able to get my say in.   ;)

(Granted, it's the only Serpentine vehicle that I own, so I can't say that it's better than the others, but still...)

(Click for link)  Actually don't because it's broken right now.   :(

Anyway, cool Ninjago set!  It's a snake helicopter that looks like a fish!  Awesome designs.  And I even took lots of pictures!  You'll see them when the database gets fixed, I'm sure of it!

New Hero Factory

Posted by xccj , in Thoughts, Review Feb 12 2012 · 31 views

So I finally managed to find Toxic Reapa on store shelves, and since he was my fav of the Winter 2012 selection, I grabbed him up.  I also saw Green Lantern, and since I keep missing out on him, I bought that set too.  And since I don't think I've really commented on the Constraction sets I've bought, let's do that here!
  • Joker: Horrible looking, but luv the purple elements!  Also has some other good pieces (minus the freaky head of course.)
  • Rocka: More gold is nice, and the trans bright green shield is strangely appealing.  Head is awful small after his last huge one.
  • Furno: Decent Hero, but kind of lackluster.  Water jets (which I keep envisioning as jetpacks) are okay but a little too bulky.  Weapon isn't that amazing sadly.   :(
  • Toxic Reapa: LUV!  The trans lime pieces are super cool, and he also contains some useful ball joint connectors and such.  Two round shoulder pads a plus, and the green flames are awesome.  Plus, as a whole, the set isn't that badly designed.  Legs are a little bare, but I can live with that.
  • Green Lantern: FINALLY.  He has a decent selection of pieces.  The green is excelent, although it is a shame that it's bright green and not standard green, so it won't go well with some of my green MOCs.   :(  Hopefully more bright green elements will be released in the future so I can make a decent green MOC using them.  Also, the trans bright green weapon pieces are cool individually, although as a whole it seems a bit odd.

That's probably it for my Constraction figs for now.  I might snag Evo if I can find him, but most of the stores in my area only have Furno and Rocka, and not any of the cheaper sets.   :(  (Not to mention how the only Super Hero figure I can find is the Joker.)  But come summer, I'll be wanting more.  I'll get at least Iron Man when they show up, and I'll want to grab a few Summer Heroes too, especially after seeing more purple in Andrew's Toy Fair coverage.

Speaking of Toy Fair, there are soo many sets that I want, and large ones too.  Helms Deep, Mines of Moria, and Jabba's Palace are the expensive ones that jump to mind, and there are a ton of cheaper ones I want too, like the cheaper Loki and Iron Man set, the Wolverine set, the Desert Skiff, the next wave of Star Wars Planet sets, the Ninjago Samauri Mech, Weathertop, and some of the Monster Fighters sets.  With that said, I propose another group purchase of a larger set at a convention, where we can maybe review it and then split the parts amongst us.   :D

But yeah I know where my money's going this summer.  Better start lining up a job...
