New York Comic Con Passes

Posted by Kohaku , in NYCC Mar 21 2013 · 54 views
this is awesome, nycc
So, Aleks and I talked with the guy in charge of New York Comic Con. And by talk I mean emailed.

You see with Hurricane Sandy that has obviously hurt us in many ways, especially financially. (Not to mention the unlivable house.)

So after explaining the situation, he authorized the most awesome thing ever.

Two four day passes for us. For free. Which helps us financially and it gives us an incredible weekend of happiness and fun to look forward too.

Which is something we need so badly.

We are so excited and blown away by the generosity.

We are very thankful for this as it is just so nice. Having something to look forward to makes things easier.

New York Comic Con is seriously the best convention ever!

(Sorry Brickfair, but NYCC has you beat.)

Pokemon Launch Party At NYCC

Pokemon, NYCC, New York Comic Con
So, on Saturday (or Day 3 for NYCC) Nintendo had a launch party for Pokemon Black 2 and White 2 just outside the convention. There were ice sculptures, adorable Pokemon, and free stuff. We each got a Pokemon bag and I got a shirt with White Kyurem and Aleks got one with Black Kyurem. They were free because we played Pokemon at the show floor at NYCC and got a ticket for them.

Not only that but by getting tickets at the Pokemon event we were able to get a free download of Pokemon Dream Radar for our 3DS Systems.

During all of this, we arrived at about 7:00 PM which was just in time for the second I Fight Dragons concert they had.

A giant inflatable Pikachu. Oshawott, Snivy, Tepig.

Okay! Thanks to Aleks being fabulous at making some of the images smaller and such, let us get this show on the road with some cosplay!

New York Comic Con was a ton of fun, we hung out with some friends we went with and then I even got to hang out with Disky for a bit. Not to mention all of the free stuff that we got and our cat ears. (OMG I WANT THE TAIL THAT IS COMING OUT TOO) :3

I'll be posting some and linking to the gallery with the rest.

We'll start with some of our own cosplay!

NYCC, New York Comic Con and 1 more...
(Cosplay pictures will be up tomorrow morning.)

When I was at New York Comic Con, the Nintendo rep let an interesting fact slip about Scribblenauts Unlimited, that Nintendo has allegedly licensed characters to the Scribblenauts team to use.

Today, this was teased:

Looks like some Mario and Zelda characters to me. And this wouldn't be surprising seeing how they have been licensing their IPs in a few other third party games.

BZPower at New York Comic Con

BZPower, NYCC, New York Comic Con
Hey all! I've got some news to share.

First off if you are purchasing tickets you should do so before 11:59PM EST. Otherwise you have to wait in a long line to pick them up, which would not be fun. Tonight is the mailing deadline.

Second, the event has been added to the BZPower Community Calendar! Please RSVP on every day that you will be attending! This will let me know how many members plan on attending and on what days they will attend. It will help us plan the member meetup accordingly.

Original Entry as follows:

For the past few years I've been going to New York Comic Con, heck last year I did a small piece for the front page on BZPower as there was a small amount of Lego to be seen.

This year I want to do more than just that. I would like to see if anyone is interested in a BZPower meetup at New York Comic Con.

Last year the event drew more than 105,000 visitors at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center, and that number has been steadily increasing. However usually before the event they sell out of all of the tickets before the show. Earlier this year I picked up the 4-Day passes, and you want that time, because it would be impossible to see everything otherwise.

New York Comic Con will take place on October 11-14, 2012.

Online Ticket Prices are as follows:
4-Day Pass: $85
3-Day Pass: $65
Friday: $35
Saturday: $50
Sunday: $35

If you are interested you can follow this link(link will take you to the NYCC website) to purchase tickets. Tickets ship at the beginning of September, if you don't want to wait in a huge line to pick up your tickets I suggest you order them soon.

For a bit more info: Directions and Hotels. Those are two very useful links if you need directions or a place to stay. It should be noted that staying at a hotel is very pricey, if you have to travel to get to the convention center that might be more worth it.

For example, I live on Long Island and we take the Long Island Railroad into the city. Round trip it costs about $17 and an hour of travel time each way. This is much cheaper than staying in a hotel for $250 per night. Staying at a hotel outside of New York City will be a lot cheaper, you just have to worry about getting to the convention center. If you come in via Penn Station you can walk to the convention center.

Now, if anyone is interested or goes to New York Comic, feel free to comment here to say that you are interested in a BZPower meetup. If there is interest in this, the idea will move forward to discussion of location of meetup and date/time.

If you have any questions or comments feel free to post them here or send me a PM.

What is this? A fair of bricks?

Unfortunately due to issues I sadly will not be attending this year.

But hey, there is always New York Comic-Con. That we will be attending as we paid for the four day passes before the issues took place.

Meeting Winston Churchill And A Dalek

Posted by Kohaku , in NYCC, Fawful, Doctor Who, Cosplay Oct 20 2011 · 51 views
Doctor Who, Winston Churchill and 2 more...
During New York Comic-Con we met Winston Churchill well we sort of met him… okay we met his actor who plays him on Doctor Who, Ian McNeice. For $20 we got his autograph and we each got a picture with him.

Fawful and Winston Churchill
Cilan and Winston Churchill

We also got to get our picture taken with a Dalek. Daleks are much taller than they seem, it was kind of intimidating.

Fawful and a Dalek
Cilan and a Dalek

Of course I also said I had a story regarding a Nintendo representative I approached as Fawful. He was impressed by the cosplay. It was short, but very fun to do.

Fawful: Why doesn't Fawful have the being in Mario 3D Land?
Nintendo Rep: Not sure.
Fawful: You should have the telling of the bosses to put Fawful in a new game. Fawful needs a new paycheck!

There were a few more things that happened at NYCC, but perhaps that is for a different time. This pretty much wraps up my coverage of what James and I did at New York Comic-Con.

The Video Games Of New York Comic-Con

NYCC, Video Games, Mario, Zelda and 3 more...
On Friday, James and I started off and went to one booth. Seeing as I am a huge Nintendo fan we headed there first. I shall list off the games as we played them. Here you can see Fawful playing Skyward Sword.

Super Mario 3D Land
  • Felt like a classic Mario game
  • You hold a button to run
  • 3D effect makes it easier to judge distance
  • Tanooki suit worked well, flutter jumping felt like it does with Yoshi
  • Fire Flower works like it does in New Super Mario Bros. series, there is no timer
  • Boom Boom was actually pretty easy
Mario Kart 7
  • Played three courses, two laps each.
  • Track 1, was a mountainous course with pipes and incoming boulders, it also had a cave and a forest.
  • Got to try out the hang glider, with which you can control in the air to change where you land.
  • Track 2, was an underwater course with Clampies and Cheep-Cheeps. You drive underwater in this one with the propeller; underwater driving is slow, yet still natural.
  • Track 3, is the Donkey Kong Country Return’s course filled with the baddies of that game.
  • The 3D effect really brought it to life, it made it easier to dodge bananas in the road.
  • Blooper is more annoying as the ink comes right at you because of the 3D.
Pokemon Rumble Blast
  • Pretty much like the WiiWare version
  • Cute in an action RPG type way, not turn based
  • Didn’t spend as much time with this one as I would have liked too, it does seem interesting.
Heroes of Ruin
  • Played as the Gunslinger and Vindicator
  • Prefered the short range melee of Mr. Vind.
  • The Gunslinger didn’t seem as accurate, and is a bit harder to use
  • Action RPG works well
  • It has potions for health and magic which can be used with L and R buttons
  • Game overall seemed like a really good action RPG
  • The gameplay was fun and I look forward to seeing more from the game
Kirby’s Return to Dreamland
  • Played with a full team
  • I was Kirby and James was Metaknight
  • King Dedede and Waddle Dee were drop in and drop out, which works instantly.
  • Kirby has many attacks per move.
  • Super attacks should be used when in certain areas with blocks they will destroy.
  • These usually lead to miniboss areas which help you get gears
  • Metaknight controlled pretty good, really powerful.
  • Characters get dragged after Kirby if they fall behind.
  • Whispy Woods was really easy with four players.
Last but not least....

The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword
  • I am left handed, used the Wiimote in my right hand and nunchuk in my left
  • It actually felt very natural and I did a pretty good job.
  • Played the demo twice, unlike the others
  • First time playing the game I took on Lord Ghirahim
  • Lord Ghirahim moves fast and can catch your sword, he catches it based on the angle of it
  • You need to trick him, swing in a direction he isn’t expecting
  • After a few hits he uses his sword
  • He moves very fast and if you shield by shaking the nunchuk you can throw him off balance
  • Shielding is important, other people were losing heart after heart when they did not shield
  • Swordplay feels very realistic
  • Second demo was the dungeon
  • You need you use the beetle to hit a crystal, which will open a door
  • Beetle is controlled by tilting the Wiimote, feels really natural.
  • You battle a Stalfos
  • Stalfos wield two swords, which are used both offensively and defensively.
  • When a Stalfos holds both swords upright, Link must strike vertically in between them; when it holds its swords sideways, Link must strike horizontally. Stalfos can also hold their two swords perpendicularly, so that Link must strike from a certain angle.
  • Once you beat it you get the upgraded beetle, which Fi explains to you.
  • It can pick items up now.
  • You need to send it through a hole in the wall to hit that same switch
  • When outside the beetle has to be sent into a nook in the wall where you must avoid Deku Babas to hit another red switch
  • Next room has a Skulltula attack, upward slash puts it on its back legs, stabbing motions can finish it
  • Continuing on you find another room where the beetle must be used to hit another switch which raises water
  • Swimming is fluid from the few seconds I did it
  • Battle another Skulltula which was on a web
  • Next room you must climb an ivy wall, shoot down a block and push it to the lower level
  • You must position it perfectly so that when you stand on it three eyes open up, so that you may make them dizzy with your sword
  • The prize is a small key!
  • Got back to the main room and the demo timed out
  • James played the Bird chasing ceremony
  • Must capture the bird with the statue
  • First time you almost capture it, cutscene plays and you start having eggs thrown at you by the other riders
  • Must capture bird while dodging eggs
  • Eggs slow you and cause a loss in altitude
  • Shaking downwards allows you to gain altitude
  • You can make the bird fly slightly faster, this is similar to the carrots in Ocarina of Time
  • You can use it three times and then it recharges, alternatively it will recharge on its own
Tomorrow I shall add the details about the special guest we saw as well as a Nintendo employee's reaction to Fawful.

Cosplay Of New York Comic-Con

NYCC, Cosplay
Welcome to part one of my New York Comic-Con coverage, today I am showing off some of the cosplay we saw at NYCC.

While at New York Comic Con one of the things you’ll notice first is the cosplay. Even I cosplayed as Fawful from the Mario & Luigi series of RPGs. My specific cosplay was actually a little bit popular, not as popular as some, but I was recognized by quite a few people.

Let’s start with day one, which for us was Friday. We actually didn’t take too many pictures on Friday we took more every day as the convention went on.Day two started with James and I cosplaying as Cilan from Pokemon and Fawful from Mario & Luigi, respectively.Day three brought us more cosplay as we refined our own costumes. There was a ton more cosplay at the convention that we didn't get pictures of for various reasons. We also have a few more that I didn't post, they can be found in my gallery right here.

Next up, a special guest we got to meet and gameplay coverage of the Nintendo games we played.

Well, I've gone with a classic blog revamp, Mustard of Your Doom. Yay evil mustard!

Really though... there is a reason for this.  At New York Comic Con... things happened. There was a horrible mutation involving beans and I was transformed into this:

I am become Fawful, master of the fury!

Anyway, I was working on a NYCC entry for today when the program I was using crashed and everything I wrote up was deleted. So, I will write it up again tomorrow after work.

After all the fun covereage I will post more stuff about what is happening, including a bit of what happened due to Hurricane Irene. Had we not paid off NYCC early when we did, we wouldn't have gone though.
