Exam Went Fairly Well

Posted by Cheshire Cat , in Education, Daily Life May 23 2013 · 0 views

So the exam went much better than I thought it would. The first two questions were very nice and easy, but kind of fell apart at the third one, partly due to lack of time, partly because it wasn't a very nice question.
But hey, it was a choice of three questions out of seven, so at least I wasn't stuck with the other four, which were pretty horrible.

Having a bit of free time, got myself a new headset and a new pair of earphones, since my old ones broke. It always feels strange switching to a new headset because I get so used to how the old one sounds.
Also picked up a couple of books: The Revolution of Everyday Life by Raoul Vaneigem, having previously read a library copy, and Selected Poems 1947-1995 by Allen Ginsberg, having enjoyed what I've read of his work.

First Exam Tomorrow

Well, I have my exam in Criminal Law at 10 tomorrow.
Got to say, I'm pretty nervous, although I am looking forward to getting it out of the way.

All Assignments Done

Posted by Cheshire Cat , in Daily Life, Education May 16 2013 · 0 views

Well, after handing in 3300 words worth of law coursework on Tuesday and doing my mooting assignment earlier this morning, I now have nothing but exams to look forward to.
The moot went fairly well, although having went with a white shirt and a red tie I resembled Agent 47 from the Hitman series more than I intended (although I do have hair of course). Not necessarily a bad thing, but I was going for more of a lawyer look rather than a professional assassin look.
It has been a very busy month and will continue to be so with exams on the 23rd and the 30th, the first of which I'm not feeling too good about. I do have a week to fix that though, so hopefully my first year of university will turn out alright.

First Semester Of University Done

Posted by Cheshire Cat , in Education Dec 18 2012 · 34 views

Well, submitted my last two assignments this morning, and with that it's the end of my first semester of university. Got to say it was quite enjoyable. Very enjoyable even. Definitely the most enjoyable time I've had in education so far. I'm glad that I decided to go with Law after all, as it's actually a very interesting and relevant subject. Although the workload multiplies at a rather staggering rate if left unattended for even the tiniest amount of time, most of that work is fairly interesting and engaging.

However, I would have thought that at this point I'd be able to pull myself together enough not to leave large chunks of assignments unfinished, only starting to finish them within the last 24 hours before the submission deadline.
Apparently not.

Well, it's still a big relief not having anymore coursework to do for the time being. Now I get more time to do nothing.

So I'm an OBZPC now...

Posted by Cheshire Cat , in Music, Education, Daily Life Oct 23 2012 · 79 views

Getting the notification "you have been given a warning" is a bit unsettling when you have forgotten that you renewed your premier membership.

And other than that, I still don't have much to blog about. My first coursework was set on Monday, and it involves 3000 words about the European Convention on Human Rights... done in a website FAQ format. I really hate doing writing that is supposed to be done like a website or magazine article, especially when it's just not something that you would actually see in an article. I'd much rather just do a 6000 word dissertation on it. But oh well, I'll have to live with it.

Tomorrow I'll be going to see Devin Townsend, so that should be fun. Would love to go see his London show, The Retinal Circus, on Saturday as that is going to be his biggest show yet, but it's sold out an I don't really have money to spend on it anyway. Admittedly, that probably wouldn't stop me, so it's good that it's sold out.

University so far

Posted by Cheshire Cat , in Daily Life, Education, Music Oct 01 2012 · 59 views

Well, it's my second week of lectures and my third week at university overall. So far I'm enjoying it, but I can confirm that law does indeed require a lot of work and reading. Just looking at the pile of books I have to read is enough to rid me of any joy or energy I may have. Admittedly though, they are pretty interesting and it does remind me of Sociology, so that's good.
Fresher's Fair was on Thursday, so I took the opportunity to sign up for the Alternative Music Society, the Poker Society and the Law Society. Hopefully those will be fun.
Also as it turns out, there is an Extreme Ironing Society here.

On a separate note, Epicloud by the Devin Townsend Project is a fantastic album. Been listening to it a lot since it arrived last week, and the bonus disk of demos, Epiclouder, might even be better than the actual album. Either way, the album lives up to its name, and although Devin was definitely telling the truth when he said that this would be a much simpler and more accessible and straightforward album than usual, it's still great.

And now I'll go back to reading law books.

Moving into university accommodation

Posted by Cheshire Cat , in Education, Daily Life Sep 14 2012 · 99 views

Well, university starts soon and I visited today to collect my keys and check out the place where I'll spend the next three years of studying. It's actually pretty nice, about the same size as my room now, so that's great. No wi-fi though, and the internet provided is probably going to be fairly slow, so I'll have to look into getting better internet for myself.
I came to the conclusion that I am the second to visit my floor/hall, as there was some milk in one of the fridges, however I did not come into contact with its owner.

Now I just have until Sunday to figure out what I need that I don't have and buy it, and then I'll be moving in. Actually can't wait, although I'll miss this summer of not doing anything.

Results Day

Posted by Cheshire Cat , in Daily Life, Education Aug 15 2012 · 68 views

Well, tomorrow is A-Level results day and for the first time, I'm genuinely terrified of results, as these will determine whether I get into university or not. Oh well, nothing I can do about it now.

Not really sure where the summer went. Hardly did anything, and did pretty much nothing of what I was planning to do. Why does that always happen?

That's It, All Exams Done

Posted by Cheshire Cat , in Education, Daily Life Jun 19 2012 · 79 views
Exams, Sociology
Had my Sociology exam today and am now official done with exams. Forever. Well, until university.
It went quite well, but the 33 mark question was all kinds of nasty. "Assess whether interpretivist methods are appropriate for sociological research". Eugh, that's the one specific question I was hoping would not come up. Still, I think I did pretty well on it, and the other three questions were very nice, especially since one of the 21 mark questions was on suicide. So hopefully I got that A I need.

And now a whole summer of doing nothing and not caring about anything eduction related at all. Until results day, anyway.

I Wish Real Life Had Ctrl+F

Exams, Sociology
Seriously, life would be so much easier.
Revising for my final Sociology exam tomorrow and decided to refresh a bit on phenomenology, which is not in the book, just somewhere in my notes. Good luck to me in trying to find it.

But yeah, last exam tomorrow, and feeling pretty nervous. I need to get an A in it, and I think I know everything I need to, and extra stuff from my additional reading, but still pretty stressful. I just hope the big questions allow to discuss Marxism in detail, as that is right in my comfort zone more than any other theory or approach.

But I am looking forward to having it done and just having the rest of the summer off with no worries about education at all, maybe except for finding books for university. Almost there...
