So yesterday (well, Sunday, considering it's almost 4 am now haha) I saw Les Misérables at the Segerstrom Center for the Arts in Costa Mesa. Oh my goodness was it amazing. I am seriously trying to contain my excitement without using all caps. It was that good. Not that I expected any differently, it being Les Mis. And this is now the second time I have seen it performed professionally (I also saw it done as a high school production), the first time being roughly a year ago at the Ahmanson Theatre in Los Angeles. I actually saw pretty much the exact same show both times with much of the same cast, the biggest exception being Jean Valjean -- however, Javert, Fantine, Éponine, and more were all the same.
It is seriously such an amazing play. I haven't been able to stop listening to Les Mis songs since. If you have any sort of appreciation for Les Mis at all, I suggest you search for the "Jean Valjean Quartet" version of "Bring Him Home" -- Colm Wilkinson (!!!), Alfie Boa, Simon Bowman, and John Owen-Jones all sing it together and it is absolutely beautiful and amazing (many, many thanks to Aderia for showing it to me =P), an encore from the 25th anniversary edition (which I simply must buy some time, especially since the 10th anniversary edition that I have is a VHS and my VHS player no longer works).
So yes. Awesome play, amazing songs. I cannot wait for the movie! I really think it's going to be great, and with that cast it should be (Colm Wilkinson playing the Bishop! That right there is reason enough, but Hugh Jackman is a great theatre guy, not to mention Anne Hathaway's amazing voice). I really urge everyone who hasn't seen the play to try to. And of course, go see the movie come December, too. =P
