Super Smash Bros. for Wii-U/3DS. Looks freaking awesome. Love that they're adding Megaman.
Super Mario 3D World. 3D Land was a fun game and this one looks like it'll be even better. Cat Mario can haz cheeseburger?
Mario Kart 8. Every time I see them driving on the walls or ceiling, I think, "Mario Kart Galaxy!"
Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze. Dixie Kong is back. Also underwater levels. It looks extremely promising.
The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD. It looks so good, even better than the GCN version. Cannot wait for it to come out.
Pokémon X and Y. The mere fact that these are the first truly 3D Pokémon handheld games is amazing in itself. Definitely looking forward to them.
Kingdom Hearts III. All I have to say about this is: It's about time.
This year's E3 is pretty good so far. I can't wait to see more.
I think Nintendo should bring it back for the Wii-U or even the 3DS (or maybe even both). It's a series that really needs a new game, IMO. I'd buy it if they did.
That's all the news I have right now regarding my fanfics. So see ya,
That means that the Legend Trilogy is finally over. I'm gonna miss it, but all things must end at some point, otherwise you drag it out too long and it becomes a zombie and tries to eat your brain. Wait, what was I talking about again?
Anyway, I am probably going to post something on this blog about the Legend Trilogy next week, most likely an overview of the series. I may not, but I think it's likely that I will, so whatever.
Why is this so important to know, dear readers?
Well, it's important because this is also the end of the editing process. Which means that tomorrow, Monday, April 22, 2013, I will post the first chapter of Dawn, followed by the second chapter on Friday.
You may have noticed that I am going to post two chapters this week, instead of the usual one. That's because Dawn is 29 chapters long, which, if posted once a week, would take 29 weeks to post completely, which is roughly half a year, which is also way too freaking long a time for anyone to follow a fanfic, no matter how good it is. I feel it will be easier to keep up interest if updates are frequent, though not too frequent; otherwise, I risk turning off readers because they never have time to read the latest chapters because they know they'll always be behind.
Thus, expect new chapters of Dawn every Monday and Friday, though if I am unable to post any on a particular day, I will do my best to make up for it as quickly as possible.
But fear not, I will continue to post TLI chapters every Saturday and Monday, as usual, as that is not a very taxing thing to do.
But now I have decided to share some news about my upcoming epic, Dawn of the New Century. Figured it gave me an excuse to blog here again.
So Dawn is on its sixth draft and is coming along nicely. Right now I am thinking of going over it one last time before I post it on BZP, although I've been working on it for so long that I'm beginning to think I'll just post it as soon as I finish this draft. That way I can begin work on the sequel.
If I had to guess Dawn's release date, I'd say mid-to-late May at the latest. Possibly sooner, depending on how quickly I edit this draft, but that's my current estimate, which of course is subject to change.
Anyway, because I'm almost done with it, I feel safe with posting a summary, so here ya go:
Fifty-thousand years after the death of Makuta Teridax, a messiah-like figure named Masqouth appears seemingly out of nowhere in Zisar, the capital of New Zakaz, promising freedom and prosperity to the enslaved Skakdi people. He backs up his claims by miraculously healing wounded or sick Skakdi, all the while hiding his true intentions for these people.
At the same time, a Skakdi named Kafor is kidnapped by two Dark Hunters, one a Skrall codenamed Night and the other a Vortixx codenamed Heavyweight. Kafor knows the fate that awaits her at the foot of the Shadowed One's throne, but cannot escape her kidnappers no matter how hard she tries.
In the city of New Atero, detective Toa Niham investigates two similar kidnappings while trying to balance her precarious love life with the famous Glatorian Rubella the Red Star. Little does she knew just how intimately related these two kidnappings are, nor the hidden secrets they will lead her to uncover.
Meanwhile, Toa Kiriah, veteran guardian of the Time Stone, is summoned by the Almighty Ones in order to help them deal with a new threat. But an unexpected attack forces Kiriah to change her plans and work with people whom she never though she would find herself working with.
The lives of these characters are destined to intertwine in ways none expect. And when they do, they -- and their world -- will be changed forever.
I hope that excites y'all as much as it excited me . So see ya,
Yet it is possible to go overboard with synonyms to the point where your writing can go from clear and exciting to puzzling and boring. Here's an example of what I mean:
Jack ducked to avoid Bernard's sword and then countered with a blow of his own. But the enemy swordsman leapt out of the way and responded with a flurry of attacks that the other dodged with grace. The pirate lashed out with a kick that would have knocked the soldier's head off his shoulders had he not jumped out of the way in the nick of time. This caused the sea dog to angrily swipe at the landlubber with his blade.
In this passage, Jack and Bernard become the "other" and the "enemy swordsman" to "pirate" and "soldier" to "sea dog" and "landlubber" all in one paragraph. It makes it sound as though there are multiple different people fighting, when in fact it's only two men.
Here is the improved version:
Jack ducked to avoid Bernard's sword and then countered with a blow of his own. But the soldier leapt out of the way and responded with a flurry of attacks that Jack dodged with grace. The pirate lashed out with a kick that would have knocked Bernard's head off his shoulders had he not jumped out of the way in the nick of time. This caused Jack to angrily swipe at Bernard with his blade.
See how much clearer it is? Jack and Bernard's names are used regularly, reminding us who is attacking who and who is dodging what, while only two synonyms -- pirate for Jack, soldier for Bernard -- are used to break up the monotony and repetitive use of names. The number of people in the fight is clearer as well.
Think of synonyms like salt. Too much and the dish loses it flavor; too little and it barely affects the dish's taste. Just enough, however, and it makes the dish delicious.
But you know what the absolute best part of it is?
We downloaded OpenOffice onto it. And thanks to OpenOffice, I have access to my Microsoft Word story files again, meaning I can get back to work on Dawn of the New Century, among my other projects. And I am so happy about that right now that I can barely even begin to describe it.
Also, Skype works well on it, although it's kind of different. Just gonna have to get used to it, I suppose.
I'd say James Franco was pretty awesome as Oz. I read they tried to get Robet Downey, Jr. first, which is a bit sad that they couldn't get him, but hey, James Franco is cool and he played Oz pretty well, in my opinion.
However, this movie isn't the kind that you absolutely have to see in theaters, IMO. Getting it on DVD or watching it on some movie/TV streaming service like Netflix later on might be best if you aren't sure whether you want see it right away.
(BTW I am writing this blog post on my Wii U's Gamepad, if y'all were wondering how I am posting this.)
EDIT: Never mind. Skype and Internet work on computer again. False alarm. Sorry.
NSMBU is pretty much the same as the other NSMB games, except the world map takes a cue from the old Super Mario World game for the SNES, as well as a couple other minor changes. So if you liked the last ones, you'll probably like this one, but if you disliked the previous installments, you probably won't like this one.
NSMBU's use of the Gamepad is not all that bad, really. There are a few situations where you'll be thankful to have a friend be able create a block for you to jump on or hold down an enemy to give you time to go around them. It's kind of fun, although not as fun, IMO, as actually playing as one of the characters. I'd recommend giving it a try at least once, though, even if you don't like it, just to get an idea of what it's like.
Anyway, to all my readers, The Legend Imploded is on indefinite hiatus. This is because Microsoft Word refuses to work on my computer and I wrote TLI on Word, so I can't access any of the chapters that I haven't posted yet or even the ones I have posted. I have no idea what's wrong with it, so until I fix it don't expect any more chapters of TLI for the foreseeable future, unfortunately.
However, I may post a flash fiction story I wrote recently, although I cannot guarantee it. Just keep your eye on the Short Stories forum anyway, just in case I decide to post it.
Thankfully, the electric company restored our electricity fairly quickly and the phone company repaired our phone lines about ten minutes ago, so everything is back to normal again. So yay and stuff.
