That's right, just got an email from the Coheed And Cambria website officially announcing the first part of their upcoming double album, The Afterman. Volume one will be released in October, while volume two will come in February.
For some reason, I've got a feeling these are going to be way better than their last album.
I finally managed to acquire a tad bit of money, so I went and bought a CD copy of Yes' "Fragile" with two bonus songs on it. I already had it on vinyl, but it was scratched and I really love the "America" bonus track. Plus it was just sitting there at walmart and I had to get it... it spoke to me.
Anyway, I had some money left over and nothing in town to buy, so I turned to the internet. I managed to find Rush's "Hemispheres" on amazon for $2, which was awesome, as well as a motherload of masks I didn't have from bricklink. There were other masks the store had that I wanted (misprint white ruru and brown matatu) but I just didn't have the funds. so I ended up with:
Black Miru (rounding off my Miru collection)
Light Blue Komau
Light Blue Ruru
Orange Ruru (rounding off my Ruru collection)
Trans-Neon Orange Kaukau
that brings my mask collection much closer to completion, having only seven of the Great masks left to get. Still many noble ones, though....
We just had the most amazing thunderstorm I've ever experienced, with literal house-shaking thunder. Was intense and amazing. Turns out downtown's flooded and cars are floating around, plus my mom took some pics of the manholes-turned-geysers along the streets.
Our house is totally unaffected, thankfully. My mom's not looking forward to all the property damage claims she'll have to deal with at work tomorrow, though.
Well, I graduated this weekend. it's not "official" because my math class isn't quite done, but the ceremonies were all happening.
On friday night we had the cap and gown ceremony, where we all wear blue dresses and square grad hats that are super uncomfortable but look pretty funny and cool. Anyway, we waited around for a long time in alphabetical order "backstage" until we were filed out into chairs in the middle of the arena. After some really horribly phony and dull speeches (aside from our principal's), we all got called up on stage one by one to receive our certificates and scholarships.
aaaaaanyway, I ended up getting a bursary (for $1000 holy ######) and a little print of our whole grad class and stuff. It was pretty awesome.
Here's a pic of our little group of friends (without hats, sorry). I'm the short one.
After the cap and gown, we all went home and blahdee blahdee blah. The next day, Saturday, I started the day early (for me) at 9:30, and we all went to Gabe's house to get our suits on and get ready and stuff. We had 4 events scheduled for the day, starting with the grand march. Basically we got all prettied up and then stood around in a tiny hallway for two hours until we were yet again filed out into the arena. However, this time, we walked in weaving lines for 45 minutes showing off our beautifulness.
Getting suited up.
Having my head partially obscured by a person.
Next came the cavalcade, which was almost immediately after the dance at the end. For those who don't know, it's basically an awesome parade of grads in cars and stuff.
Here's the truck I was in (I had no idea what type of vehicle it was until I got there), with my grad date who's cut out of the pic.
After this we went back to Gabe;s house. His parents were throwing a party for us, and inviting all the families over and stuff. it was a great time, with laughs and cheers and yeah. It was good. And I feasted on pop and cookies.
Anyway the party went until 7:30, then we all tidied up our suits and left again for the third appointment: prom. I got a ride in a limo with the same group who were in the truck with me, and it was great. We went in, got our LVR bucks, and started gambling and dancing and bidding and a bunch of fun stuff. At first I was like "this is gonna' be a looong night", but then the live band started playing, who were fantastic and played exclusively 80s pop hits, and everything just kept getting better. There was no alcohol, but we were all pretty drunk just on excitement. We won a crapload of money gambling (the fake money BTW) and we all pooled it to try and win some auction items. The one we wanted though, a $500 trip pack, but we were outbid by an old friend of mine by $3000 (we bid $7000). So we ended up getting these pretty cool leaf plates for Gabe's mom as a thank you for the party.
We have leaf plates.
After that, we went home, got changed into street clothes, and then headed up to the after party. It was in a field, with a huuuuge sound system that was cycling pretty fairly between all different types of music. I drank a bit, two beers (which were both awful) and some vodka mixed with Sunny D which was yum. I eventually got drunk and poked my friends noses or something, and tried to deal with drunken Zach, until I sobered up around 3:30am and helped Jason with his delirious and later unconscious grad date. Around 4:30 the sun started coming up, and we were all beginning to get bored; the music was getting worse and worse and the people were getting more retarded with every minute. eventually Gabe's dad came for us at 5:45 and took us back home, and the "day" ended.
Me and Drew dancing down to the car before afterparty.
Being retarded in the car.
And now I'll leave you with one last group photo:
Fake cool is what we are.
And that was my grad.
Well, I graduate high school in a mere 2 weeks. The ceremonies are this weekend. Me and my friends decided to do this a long time ago, but only now did it - our grad prank. The rest of the grad class has already done theirs (some great stuff, too), but we wanted our own.
We painted it saying GRAD 2012 and gave it racing stripes and smily faces and stuff; ripped the engine, doors and seats out aswell.
In the courtyard of our school.
We chained it to the manhole cover so nobody can take it or anything lol, and everyone'll see it tomorrow morning. I took some videos of loading/unloading it into the truck, so I may or may not post those. It was fun.
Most people seem to have forgotten the once-popular time-wasting activity of plastic model kit construction. My dad used to build them constantly back in the day, and he passed on the hobby to me over the years. I'e been doing it since I was 5, but obviously not with good results.
I mostly like to do various spacecraft (usually from Star Trek), but I've also got some planes and cars done/waiting to be started. Just felt like having an entry dedicated to it, and to put some of my work on here; it's one place I've never really thought to post models.
NSEA Protector (Galaxy Quest) (Most Recent; still needs decals)
Romulan Bird Of Prey (Star Trek: TOS)
Scale Collection of all Enterprise ships (except NX-01)
USS Kongo (Star Trek: TOS style) with really badly done ISS Exeter
USS Enterprise B (Star Trek VII)(First one I did on my own)
1953 Chevy Coupe
Saladin Class Kitbash (burnt for fun)
USS Excelsior (with USS Enterprise D)
USS Enterprise A (With TOS of the same scale made by my dad)
I still have a Piper bush plane, a Spitfire, a Stealth fighter, and the Jupiter II from Lost In Space that I've not yet started aswell.
Well, I beat Mass Effect 2. Took 30 hours. I failed Thane's loyalty mission (and was too stupid to reload and do it again) and got half my crew (Kelly, Gabby, Rupert...) killed. But hey, I beat it nonetheless!
I also got my sister hooked on it (she's in love with Garrus completely) aswell, and I've now started a second playthrough with my same Shepard on normal instead of casual to pass the time while I wait for the first game to arrive in the mail. Didn't bring my Space Hamster to the second career though
Also Tali and Garrus are best characters, and as far as I'm concerned, the only romance options. They're both so awkward and adorable and not full of themselves (coughmirandacough) and yeah. Is it bad to dream of fictional alien women with fishtanks on their heads?
My friends (Nif and Takal mostly) have been bugging me, a complete non-gamer, to play the Mass Effect series because they thought the story-driven gameplay would appeal to me more than the mindless shooting that is Halo and CoD (I seriously hate those games).
Anyway, my friend recently moved in with me, and he brought a bunch of Xbox games with him, one of which was Mass Effect 2. Seeing as I've been stuck on Assassin's Creed for months, I figured I'd try something new. After the first ten minutes of playing, I realized I was hooked. It's got more story and less actual gameplay than even AC, so it's like the perfect game for me. I've only been playing on casual (because as I said, I don't game) and I'm currently on a mission to retrieve Samara, and then do Miranda's loyalty mission.
So yeah. First time I've ever actually been addicted to a game in my life. It's kinda' weird.
So I went to the late showing for this movie last night, hoping it to be great. I mean, anything with Downey in it has to be amazing, right?
Right indeed. The Avengers was one of the best movies I've seen since the new Star Trek. The comedy was delivered at exactly the right times, all the actors were perfectly in character, and pretty much nothing was overdone. I was never a fan of The Hulk or Captain America, but this movie made me love both and want to watch their respective movies. And Loki was an interesting villain.
I'll hopefully be seeing it again with my mom and sister haha.
One of my relatives... I dunno' what he is, maybe a second cousin once removed or something? Anyway, he's like 7, and he had brought a bag of lego to my grandparents' house. I had met this kid once before maybe when he was two-ish, so I started talking with him and he showed me some sets he had and stuff. I was messing around with a star wars set (that green and yellow one from the clone wars) and a piece fell off. I picked it up, and looked briefly around the ship to find where it fell from, but he grabbed it from me and said "it goes here, dumb***". And I was just like shocked.
First of all, like, I've been playing with lego since before you were born, so I think I know how to find where a piece came from. Excuse me if I couldn't see it in three seconds on a set I'd never built. Secondly, when did kids start using such language? I never even heard any of those words 'till I was 10-ish.
Now, don't get me wrong, he is a nice enough kid. Just the differences since I was his age are very apparent, and makes me feel really old, but I'm only 17 lol. Also it's not nice to grab.
I was inspired by my sister (who downloaded some cool fonts for me) to make some mock-up album covers for my band, which might be used on our first demo recording whenever that happens. I made up three using some pictures I found online, and I'd love some critique from you all.
in order of my least favourite to favourite:
All Things Must Die
I have this one for if we lean more to the evil-er side of metal, with the doom and gloom and yeah. I dunno', I'm not a huge fan of it.
Those That Pray
This one is a bit more intelligent, with the name and picture actually representing something, but that goes a bit close to my views on religion so I'll stay out of those waters (no pun intended). I really like the look of this but it does feel slightly tacky.
Whole Lotta Nothing
This one here is a bit less "metal", but I think it stays truer to who we are as guys, with our wacky sense of humour. Also, our bassist learned to play when he moved to saskatchewan (which looks very similar). He was super bored, so decided to buy a bass. In a big way, we owe the band's existence to a "whole lotta' nothin'".
Anyway yeah, this is just me trying to get some ideas out and see if they're successful at all. This would only be for a demo recording, as I have grand plans for an actual album cover, but I would still much appreciate thoughts. Also I'm not even sure which would fit the music best 'cause I don't actually know what the music is. ha.
Where everything just goes perfectly, and there's absolutely nothing to complain about?
'Cause I'm having one right now.
I got to sleep in, and then I got up at 9:30 to get a ride with my friend to the theatre to practice for the talent show tonight. Our rehearsal went amazing, and on the drive around we jammed to some Megadeth cassettes my friend found in his truck. We went to Subway afterwards, which I've not been to in ages, and then we just kinda' hung out in town with another friend, visited some stores and stuff.
I decided to get some exercise and walk home, passing by a pawn shop which is always closed. However, today it was open, so I popped in, and I found Dream Theater's "Images And Words" on cassette for fifty cents. I got home and then left again, to pick my mom up from work, jammin' to my new tape all the way.
'Course, when I got home, my sister started ridiculing me for eating all the fudge (of which there was still another box), going on the computer (which I've not extensively used for a week) and yeah. But not even that can bring me down. I've not been this legitimately happy for months, and it feels great.
Hope you're all having great days too!
