Legitimacy of Games 101

Posted by Ta-metru_defender , Mar 31 2013 · 91 views

I'm taking Games 101 this semester and a lot of people laugh or are jealous because sometimes my homework is playing Halo, Settlers of Catan, or Mega Man 2 (or this week: Civilization V, Advance Wars, or StarCraft II). Thing is, my midterm is tomorrow (Monday) and I'm cramming.

People, I will have to see a picture of a game in play and write down the name, date, developer, platform, and country of origin. AND THAT IS JUST THE FIRST PART OF THE TEST.

I HAVE NOTE CARDS. I HAVE NEVER NEEDED NOTE CARDS BEFORE.

Employment

Posted by Ta-metru_defender , Mar 07 2013 · 74 views

Starting Monday I'll be starting work at the Just Salad on 8th St. I think they sell salad.

On the one hand, this might mean so long to bunches of free time and stuff that that entails (like Daily Show trips, long late night conversations, too many video games, Cookies and Coloring Club).

But then this means money. Which means I can buy stuff. Like the Iron Man 3 sets, ME3 DLC, a black tie, alcohol, movie tickets, gloves, and so on.

Heck, I may be able to eat out now and then.

But yeah. We'll see how I feel about this a month down the line.

Mechanical Turking Pt 2

Sweet, made $2.98 so far! That's enough for like, a cheap beer and four packets of ramen! Including tax!

Score!

what I do for cash
So Amazon has this thing where groups can crowdsource menial tasks to folks for menial pay.

As a broke college kid (who desperately wants to be able to buy books, movie tickets, and Iron Man 3 Legos), it is my duty to perform these tasks.

...while watching TV in another window, of course.

Rest of Spain and Three Days in Morocco

Posted by Ta-metru_defender , Jan 21 2013 · 35 views

My apologies for not updating this more regularly. You really think I would given the whole being in Spain and Morocco thing.

But anyway. We spent a day in Cordoba, two nights in Grenada (the Spanish city, not the Carribean island [yes, I have to make this distinction]), then drove to Tarifa and took a ferry to Tangiers where we've been since. I suppose it's time for another list?

  • Have I mentioned how awesome it is to have your school pay for your wine and beer?
  • I may or may not have been pushing certain blocks in Cordoba's Mezquita/Great Mosque. Sadly, no passageways.
  • Walking around Spanish streets is fun.
  • I love Spanish drinking culture; having a beer with tapas and all. Very social, very fun.
  • The food is so good too.
  • €1 shots are a beautiful thing.
  • The Alhambra is a stunning piece of architecture.
  • Yes, I was touching things there too.
  • And considering climbing stuff.
  • Ferries bring back memories, man.
  • Morocco is really cool. It reminds me both of Malaysia and places like Ghana, but different still.
  • Mint tea is a type of tea I like.
  • Haggling is fun.
  • Couscous is a grain, not a dish.
  • Shawarma, baby.
  • The Rif Mountains are beautiful. Like you wouldn't believe, man.
  • This trip has been incredible.
  • Despite the logic that alcohol kills germs, tequila shots are not an appropriate cold remedy.
Anyway folks, I need to check out and get gone. See you state side.

Spain Day Six

Posted by Ta-metru_defender , Jan 14 2013 · 63 views

I feel like I should have mentioned this earlier.

For my January term I, and a group from Gallatin at NYU, are off to Spain and Morocco for a couple weeks. We just arrived in Cordoba today after spending the last few days in Madrid (and one in Toledo!). So I guess here are some quick highlights:

  • Sometimes it seems like Spain has a vendetta against free public wifi
  • Walking around Madrid is loads of fun
  • Having epic group meals are fantastic; especially when your university is paying for both the food and wine.
  • El Prado is a really cool museum as far as art museums go.
  • Found a Canary Island restaurant (El Escaldon); ate there. Barraquito is a wonderful desert.
  • I love the Spanish style of eating out; ordering tapas and sharing and talking for an hour.
  • Also: sidra is nice.
  • I haven't used my Spanish in years; it's so much fun to use it again.
  • I realize that I understand some slang thanks to playing the original Uncharted in Spanish.
  • Toledo is freaking awesome man.
  • No really, it is.
  • I had to fight the impulse to start climbing around/inside buildings
  • I swear if we'd pushed that one block in a secret passage way would open
  • Maybe we had to pull a candle holder
  • Hitting up a bar at 12am and hanging out for two hours drinking cidra talking rubbish is one of my new favorite things
  • Went to the royal palace in Madrid. Touched a lot of stuff, because you gotta feel history, man. I frequently heard "¡No toca!"
  • Heard a cover of "Violet Hill" in a square played on a pair of cimbalons. Yeah, I had to look up the instrument
  • I haven't been to El Corte Ingles since I was in the Canary Islands (bought a pair of Visorak there in '05)
  • Cordoba makes me want to run and climb on everything
  • I think I'm going to write an Uncharted fanfic set in Spain.
So there's my adventure so far. Man, I haven't been to Europe since... 2009? Haven't been to Africa since 2005, so I'm looking forward to Morocco too.

Anyway. I need to go. More exploring and adventuring awaits.
