Understood Friendship Policy

:kaukau: It's a common scenario for many BZPers.  Strangers will commonly add you to their friends list, and they don't even explain why, let alone acknowledge you much afterwords, like you'd think that a person wanting to be your friend would.  In the end, they are still strangers.

There's a tip in the CoT TBRPG guide that encourages RPG owners to require people to PM character sheets to them before joining.  I don't know how, but it's somehow supposed to make it more likely for people to join the RPG and be an active player.

I have applied this to my friendship policy.  My rough equivalent is not that I will require the addition of my name to one's friends list to be approved, but I would like you all to know that whenever I see "Friend Approved" in my inbox with someone's name right next to it that I don't immediately recognize and understand, I am going to hit the reply button and ask this simple question: "Why?"

Recently, I received the first PM ever explaining why someone added me to their friends list, and it was very nice to understand their reasons.  Then today someone added me to their friends list, but I didn't receive an explanation as to why.  I want to know what common ground we have that got myself so much approval from someone.  There might be a misunderstanding.  For all I know, someone might have added me because of my RPGing activity and not because of my hatred for the Toa Mistika.  If someone's going to add me to their friends list, than I want to understand.  I will ask from now on.

Your Honor,
Emperor Kraggh

It's happened to me, too. I never bother to ask anyone why they randomly add me to their friends' list because I could care less, usually. I only ever add readers of my comedy and epic to my friends' list, so I can contact them quickly if I need to.

Perhaps I should do the same as you and ask someone why they added me to their friends' list. Especially if they're someone I don't know.

This is why I don't add friends.

You dun have friends anyways, Omi.

In any case, I like to have an equal opportinuty friendship. Anyone can be my 'friend', and in return I will look at their profile. If there is something interesting about them, then maybe I'll add them. If, however, I dun see anything about them that merits a friendship, then I just leave. If they really wanna be my friend, though, then they will tell me why in one way or another. But I will never deny someone to friend me, even if they give no reason.

That's just how I do it. Meh.

kaukau.gifI'm not really the type who adds people to my friends list mainly because of similar interests. I tend to add them if there's an unwritten friendship already, a clear relationship. I won't add people to my own friends list after they have added me to theirs, but not because I don't respect them. They pretty much can have me if they want, but it's one way. I'm there friend, but they are not officially my friend. It has nothing personal against them, it's simply because I haven't formed what I consider to be a real friendship with them. I might have similar interests, but that isn't always what counts, in my mind.

People may add me to their friendship. I have no quarrel, and it doesn't upset me. However, I will be curious.

Well, I also like to be able to be more reachable by the others. That has since allowed me to make friends with staff just as much as new guys. And in many times, bonds of some sort are created, and they payed off in the end.

I have on approve friends, but more because there are some members I don't want to be my friend, as they treat me horribly in real life.

I don't ask new members, as they might need a friend or whatever, but most people I'm curious about. Like, my first and best friends were all people who review my stuff.

That was my approval stamp. I'd say that I did a pretty awesome job with it. If you see it in your blog, it means that you are pretty intelligent to have earned it.
