If you say the top of Equestria's map marks the neck, some cities and landmarks even line up.
Are cutiemarks and sigils just two sides of the same coin?

Not sure about the cities, but Equestria shown above looks more like the head of a unicorn to me.

 

I don't see a land structure marking that description on the map above.

I think Equestria has more in common with North America, personally. As well as a centralized structure akin to that of Oz.
