What should be important in your life...
First, think about the things in your life that you most treasure; that you find very important. When I say this, I do not mean people or objects, to be honest, but rather, ideas, talents, occupations, etc. Taking all of these things into thought, we have to narrow it down to one or two things that are important to us.
Now, before I speak of how to prioritize, let me first explain what should and should not be priorities. Let it be known that I will of course refrain to mention any religious or political views or ideas, and anything that I say within this entry is just an opinion. If you do not agree, please comment on why you do not (As long as you are not saying anything that can/will start an argument). Back to my point, what I would consider a bad priority is something that you do not enjoy, will most likely never do anything with, is not productive, and things similar to these. You may be good at video games. That is great, I am, too ( ). However, if you want to set your priorities straight, you need to look at the things in your life that you will most likely make something out of. I will take my own life as an example: As many of you probably know, I am really into music--it is practically my life. Nevertheless...sometimes, I can get a bit out of practice. The problem I have is that I also enjoy the computer and sports and many other things, but that does not matter now. What does matter is that while sports and computer can be good things--and sometimes be used in productive ways--they can also be used in other ways. In other words, they can hold me back from improving my music.
When I say this, I really do not mean using the computer or playing sports is bad, because they are not. However, please take into account the things that you are best at doing. I am better at music than sports and computers, and, most likely, music will be my occupation in life at some point. I do not know what or how this is going to happen, but from what others and I can see at this point, music is a much higher priority than computers or sports.
Enough about me, let us talk about you. No, really. What are you good at doing? Think about it, whether your talent(s) is music, or sports, or art, or even computers. Now, if you are good at something, you obviously want to get better at it, right? Well, this will definitely not happen if you do not make it a high enough priority. If you want to get better at sports, but the computer is taking away time that could be used productively to practice sports, than it is probably a good idea to lower your computer usage. Obviously this will be difficult (If you really do like the computer), but sometimes we have to do hard things to get better at something.
Back to the subject of importance. We have been talking about priorities a lot, but why not importance? Well, actually they are two completely different things. However, they are very similar in some aspects. The literal definition of "importance" is the state or fact of being of great significance or value. Therefore, by looking at this, we can see that usage of the computer, sports, and music would all be considered important. However, a priority is something of utmost value above all other aspects of importance.
I hope that you take what I have said to heart and try to improve whatever you need to improve, be it sports, or music, or even working on BZP! Okay, maybe not (Unless, of course, you are a staff). Anyways, keep trying hard to be disciplined and make sure to set all of your priorities straight. Now, I had better go do so myself!
