Last February, I wrote a blog entry. THIS IS A LINK TO THAT BLOG ENTRY.
Now. Some of my reasons were rather incorrect, obviously, but how does this relate to X and Y?
Because X and Y are being released this year, the year everybody thought "hey ruby/sapphire remakes". And you would not believe how many people I've seen since the X and Y announcements moaning about no ruby/sapphire stuff.
However, there's a reason I never believed in the Ruby/Sapphire remakes; and that is Emerald. Emerald is the third in a trilogy, much like Yellow and Crystal before it, and Platinum after it.
But it is very different from those games.
Ruby and Sapphire were the most diverse pair of Pokemon games ever, and Emerald combined both of those stories into one, and did a mighty fine job of it. As a result, Emerald is the most complete game of the three. Think about it...
What did Yellow add? Pikachu walks behind the player.
What did Crystal add? A Suicune sidestory easily inserted into HG/SS.
What did Platinum add? A "distortion world" - in the future, this could be easily inserted into a pair of Diamond/Pearl remakes, or it maybe it will be a Platinum remake. Who knows?
Black 2 and White 2... well, they changed things up more than Emerald as they are actual sequels. Also they are a pair, so point becomes null. Black 2 and White 2 aren't really comparable.
With Yellow and Crystal there was no reason to remake them; the most important aspects of them were easily inserted into the remakes. But Emerald, not so much.
So this has been the second in the "Emerald Remake" series. With X and Y released this year, with us getting a pair of new Pokemon games every year since 2010 (and we got Platinum 2009), I'd say it's safe to expect "Z/X+Y sequels" within the next two years, and the Emerald remake after that.
I don't remember where I was going with this, but I feel stupoid now.
