While I'm not enjoying the company of my compadres I've been enjoying a bunch of other things. I purchased Rock Band with the help of some gift cards and though I got just the game it's still been lots of fun. I already have two guitar controllers, and you can use a normal headset as a microphone, so I'm only missing out on the drums. I did get to use a friend's set, and they're a lot of fun, but nothing I could justify $180 for.
I also received and read Metal Swarm, the sixth book in the Saga of Seven Suns series by Kevin J. Anderson. It's definitely only for mature audiences as it contains some very graphic content, but if you're into sci-fi or just a darn good story I highly suggest it. It basically looks at the Milky Way a few hundred years from now from dozens of different perspectives as we go through one of the most trying conflicts in mankind's history. Very good stuff.
I've also been watching From the Earth to the Moon a twelve hour HBO miniseries from the mid or late nineties that chronicles our voyage to land on our neighbor in the cosmos. It's a very deep, emotional, and well-done project that I remember enjoying when I was younger, and enjoyed just as much, if not more, now. I wish our culture could have that same kind of bond or cohesion again, with everyone working toward a common goal, something so amazing, it seems out of reach, but that we pull off in the end.
Finally there's been a lot of music listening going on. I got a bunch of albums over the past few weeks, with things like Paranoid by Black Sabbath, The Platinum Collection by Queen, Sticky Fingers by The Rolling Stones, and of course The Halo 3 Official Soundtrack by Marty O'Donnell and Mike Salvatori. I'm surprised my iPod hasn't burst yet, but there are still a few GBs of free space left.
So that's a fun, non-BZP related entry from me. I hope everyone else either enjoyed their break or is still enjoying it, and if you live in the Northeast I hope you got outside today and enjoyed the amazingly unseasonal and nice weather we've been having.
Until next time!
