Dictators Of The Forum

BZP nazis omg
After Janus posted this entry, I realized I had a lot to say about this subject. I've been meaning to describe it for awhile.

There is careful consideration made when admins choose a new staff member, and I believe that a member's level of attention and care for others is taken highly into account. The power-hungry aren't hired: there have been some popular members out there, who many -think- could be staff. But when you look closer, these members were ultimately out for their own image, thus not hired.

Just because we may not post as often, reply to all PMs, and talk a whole lot with regular members does not mean we are cold or demeaning. We are busy! We have to be firm in some of our dealings, because with the majority of rule-breakers, you have to be serious to get the message across. If we were like, "Oh! Double-posting is bad, okay? Try not to do it anymore! :D" all the time, and not do anything other than that, spam would run rampant. You would not believe how clean it is here. Go hang-out in some other forums, or even read video comments on that popular video website. Because there is little punishment for arguing, flaming, and rule-breaking, people make huge messes and say hateful things to each other constantly.

All we want here is for members to have a safe, fun environment. Since we are human, and all humans do wrong, there have to be rules. And to make sure that those up top don't get off-track, there's more than one or two people in each level of staff. This is the system of accountability. When a staff member does something that's actually wrong, there are many other staff around to "check" for him. They will know he's wrong and will do what they can to fix the problem, even if it's to stand against him.

Therefore, this isn't a fascist, communist, or tyrannical-type of forum. If it was, your lives on here would be extremely miserable, and you would've left long ago. In order for everyone to get along, discussion of certain things isn't allowed, so we can prevent arguments. This isn't communism! This is common sense!! It keeps the majority of members happy, and prevents huge flame wars. There's a lot of immature and stupid people on the internet, and we have to be ready for them. Nobody HAS to talk about these subjects to have a good time, let alone survive, right?

When you were little, you probably told your parents or guardian that you hated them, or you didn't think they punished you for a good reason. But now, you know they were just correcting you because what you did was wrong. Similar grounds here, folks.

If you MUST compare it to a form of government (which is pointless, in my opinion, as how this is more like a club), then this is like a constitutional monarchy, at most. This is one of the best kinds of government, if executed properly. There are rulers, but they are required to obey the laws, too. They are kept in-check by others with power. New leaders are chosen by the old. To me, this seems most like BZP.

Thanks. :)

You beat me to it. Curse you!
The aura of truthiness that permeates this entry is almost palpable.

Interesting ... so you compare BZP to Canada? I can definitely see the parallels; it works very well. Of course, Canada being a much larger group of people than BZP, the 'rules' are a bit more open (as to speech and such, as you mentioned: we aren't allowed to discuss politics, faith, etc etc), but the way the system works is definitely there.

I do have to say that BZP runs more smoothly than Canada does on most occasions, although we don't have server crashes (apart from that blackout last year ... Bertha ... ). XD

We're not a constitutional monarchy. Never have been.

What are we then? I just finished a course on this, it's stated on the Parliamentary website and the GG's website - a federal constitutional monarchy, with the Queen of Canada as head of state. No law can be passed without her approval, which is why the office of the Governor General is in place. The head of government, as in England, is the Prime Minister and his or her cabinet. The two countries are both constitutional monarchies, with the Sovereign being the theoretical and nominal source of executive, judicial and legislative power. She has many hypothetical abilities and can dissolve Parliament or veto a bill, but she is head of state and the Prime Minister is head of government.

I'm not quite seeing how we're not a constitutional monarchy. Do explain.

(Referencing myself off the GG's site and this lovely booklet by Senator Eugene Forsey, along with that which I learned in my Canadian Studies course all last year ... )
I have no idea what Canada is, but this entry is bonesiii approved.

I usually reject outright all such governmental comparisons, because a website is something you can leave with a click, a country is something you might have trouble leaving (and similar reasons). The club analogy is the closest, as you say, since that really is a form of government. Constitutional Monarchy is another good comparison, as you made very clear.

Yayz!
