A Day of Cascade

Posted by xccj , in Lego Conventions Feb 17 2013 · 44 views

So I registered for Bricks Cascade.  Only instead of going for the full convention, I'm only going to make it on Saturday.  All day Saturday, so any cool stuff going on I can be a part of... but nothing Friday or Sunday.

See, even though I've lived near Portland for years, I'm currently working in Dallas.  So my plans are to fly to Portland Friday night, hang out on Saturday, and head back Sunday morning and be ready for work the following Monday.

I'm lucky in one aspect that I can fly non-rev (basically, I don't pay) which means I can fly as far as I want.  The downside is... non-rev means I fill in any empty seats, and if none exist... well then I don't fly.  Or if the flight gets canceled like it did to New York last weekend, there's not much I can do.  (I know a lot of interns who's travel plans were messed up by that storm, so I wasn't the only one.)  In short, there's a chance that I might not be able to make the flight to Portland.  But so far it seems empty enough, so I'm holding out hope.

And I'll bring some of my MOCs!  Sadly, nothing that hasn't already been seen at BrickCon or even Bricks Cascade last year.  But if Cascade is anything like last year, there'll be plenty of room for some random MOCs that I can fill up... for a day anyway.

My Weekend Plans

Posted by xccj , in News Feb 08 2013 · 68 views

Hey guys, guess what!!

Posted Image

Yes, that is an official Toy Fair pass to the Lego 2013 set previews. I was officially signed up to attend as part of the press, and Andrew and I were going to photograph the ball joints off those new Hero Factory characters!

AND THEN GUESS WHAT!

Mother Nature hates me. The big storm already has my flight canceled. And since I'm flying for free as an intern, they have no real interest to book me on a new flight and get me there on time, when there are so many paying customers who are a bigger priority. So all those plans were for naught.

Oh well, maybe next year. Maybe. I might not have free flights then either tho. But BZP shouldn't really care... sounds like Sixboss is still going to brave the storm and bring us excelent coverage, like he does every year. Have fun, Andrew!

But I'm going to be all sad now. Again. But now I'm thinking of taking the effort and going to BricksCascade, if just for a single day. You guys can cram all that awesomeness into one day, right??

Rage

Posted by xccj , in Thoughts Feb 06 2013 · 108 views

I want to kill something... specifically these germs and bacteria that are giving me a sore throat STILL and/or ear infection. COME ON IMMUNE SYSTEM IS THAT THE BEST YOU CAN DO FOR ME??

(Okay maybe not the most tasteful blog entry ever but seriously...)

Also, I was gonna complain that Rene started texting me at 1 AM but he was ignoring the time difference and I was trying to sleep... but really it's a good assumption that I'd be awake at 1 AM so I can't really find fault with him. Oh well.

Ten Years

Posted by xccj , in News Jan 22 2013 · 101 views

Oh yeah, I missed it but last week I got my ten year spinny. I've stuck around here for ten years. Crazy.

In other news, I may have the flu. Or maybe just a cold. Or maybe some sort of exotic cancer... Yay researching symptoms on the internet. Either way, it comed with a sore throat that still hasn't gone away. :-(

Sore Throat

And that was just the beginning of it.

Anyway, not a good day.  To sum it up, I'm an ill, financially poor, antisocial loser.

Yes I'm being negative again.

I Should Probably Go To Sleep Now

Posted by xccj , in News, TV Jan 17 2013 · 83 views

But I have Internet access again!  Yay, so excited!

I need to do a big write up on my trip down and my experiences here and stuff, with pictures and everything.  But just haven't had the time!  Okay, so I did blow an hour catching up on some shows when I came home to Internet... but I could be doing that for hours, so I'm just impressed that I've limited myself!

Next big step: buying some furniture.

Also, I watched Legend of Chima tonight.

Most Important Place in Dallas

Posted by xccj , in News Jan 16 2013 · 60 views

Still no internet, but I had to let you know that I just visited the most anticipated hot spot in Dallas, TX.

I went to the local Lego store. :P

Okay, there wasn't anything too fancy, but it was my first chance to see some of the new sets and such. Chima looks great, and I got to practice feeling for the series 9 figs. I came out with a street police officer and a forest maiden, and also a Ninjago Warrior Bike. (Rileys, I still owe you two sets so ya gotta tell me what you want!)

Work is cool. I'm waking up before sunrise and wearing a tie. When the heck did I grow up? Did bring a few small models to populate my desk tho. Dallas is cold... what gives?

My Thoughts on 2012

Posted by xccj , in Thoughts Dec 31 2012 · 60 views

Normally, around this time of year, I would write a blog entry summarizing all my shortcomings from this year and how I was going to change next year.  Only this time, I don't feel horrible depressed or anything so I got nothing much to add.  (That, and just in case the world ended last week, I only planned for 3 months into 2013.  Drat, now I gotta think about stuff even further down the road... like 4 month from now, or even 5 months!)

So, um, I'm excited to start an internship and move to Dallas.  It'll be costly, but I will have to make some room in my budget for Lego, because there's lots of exciting sets coming out.  I have my eyes on Ninjago in particular, as most of the sets (and figs) look pretty awesome.  Chima is also a cool one, although I don't think I can afford to get too invested in it.  Also Galaxy Squad looks epic, but I'll probably only get one or two cheaper ones.  Plus, still interested in Hero Factory, 'cause of some of the new trans green elements look nice.  And, of course, the collectible minifigures, of which I want them all.  ;)

I'm also looking forward to eating more solid foods in a couple of weeks.  :happydance:

So Happy New Year, everybody!  Party on.  (And if you're partying like it's 1999... then it must be a historical themed party.  Ha!)
