The House Is Mine

Posted by Cheshire Cat , in Daily Life Jul 08 2012 · 43 views

Well, with my dad working in Russia and my mum on holiday, it's gonna be a month or so of just me and the cat. This will be great - a whole month of peace and quiet, which is just what I need ^_^
I shall also take this opportunity to listen to the music my mum hates really loudly while I can.

Now, where's my copy of Reign In Blood?

That's It, All Exams Done

Posted by Cheshire Cat , in Education, Daily Life Jun 19 2012 · 79 views
Exams, Sociology
Had my Sociology exam today and am now official done with exams. Forever. Well, until university.
It went quite well, but the 33 mark question was all kinds of nasty. "Assess whether interpretivist methods are appropriate for sociological research". Eugh, that's the one specific question I was hoping would not come up. Still, I think I did pretty well on it, and the other three questions were very nice, especially since one of the 21 mark questions was on suicide. So hopefully I got that A I need.

And now a whole summer of doing nothing and not caring about anything eduction related at all. Until results day, anyway.

I Wish Real Life Had Ctrl+F

Exams, Sociology
Seriously, life would be so much easier.
Revising for my final Sociology exam tomorrow and decided to refresh a bit on phenomenology, which is not in the book, just somewhere in my notes. Good luck to me in trying to find it.

But yeah, last exam tomorrow, and feeling pretty nervous. I need to get an A in it, and I think I know everything I need to, and extra stuff from my additional reading, but still pretty stressful. I just hope the big questions allow to discuss Marxism in detail, as that is right in my comfort zone more than any other theory or approach.

But I am looking forward to having it done and just having the rest of the summer off with no worries about education at all, maybe except for finding books for university. Almost there...

New Desktop Background

Well, the first of the albums that I ordered arrived today and it's so good that I had to change my wallpaper.
It'll be nice having this guy staring at me everytime I close a window.

...And just changed it again after finding this one. I have been listening to Unto The Locust a lot lately and this one looks nice. Maybe I'll just have it cycle between those two.

Third Exam Went Well

Posted by Cheshire Cat , in Daily Life, Education Jun 13 2012 · 39 views
Exams, Sociology
Had my Sociology retake of the Mass Media unit today, and it went well. Was really worried about this one, but it turned out alright. Got easy questions, but would have liked if the they allowed to talk about Marxism more, as the main question was mostly Postmodernism vs Pluralism. Still, not complaining.
However, as it turns out, three A2 exams in three days is bloody exhausting. Now just have to prepare for my last exam, the Criminology unit of Sociology, which is on Tuesday.

Since my exams are coming to an end, I went on a bit of an online shopping spree. Bought a bunch of albums, a couple of books and a new gaming mouse. Hopefully it will arrive by the time my exam is finished.

And it's Wednesday the 13th ^_^ Guess what artist I'll spend today listening to.

(If you guessed Wednesday 13, you're right!)

History Exam

Posted by Cheshire Cat , in Daily Life, Education Jun 12 2012 · 45 views
Exams, History
Had my second exam today - History.
It went quite good, the questions were great. The first one I chose asked us to assess whether taxation was the main cause of economic rebellions in Tudor England, which was pretty straight forward and I made some good points as to the reason it wasn't the case.
The second question asked how effectively the Tudor governments dealt with rebellions in England and Ireland, which is again pretty straight forward, and it's always fun to bash the Tudors' incompetence in Irish matters.
The question I didn't chose asked to how important the role of the clergy was in maintaining political stability in Tudor England, which isn't a very nice question, especially since you can't talk about Ireland. But since I could chose the other two, not a problem.

So yeah, this exam was as easy as I thought it would be.
Tomorrow is my Sociology retake, and that's the one I'm not feeling too good about.

My First Exam

Posted by Cheshire Cat , in Daily Life, Education Jun 11 2012 · 63 views
Exams
Well, had my first exam today. English Language and Literature, and it went fairly good. Although it turns out mild insomnia and exams don't go together too well in terms of how you feel. Who would have thought?

The Hamlet bit was interesting, as our teacher assured us that there is very little chance that we would be given a scene that doesn't have Hamlet in it. Well lo and behold, we got the scene where Claudius and Laertes were crafting their plan to kill Hamlet, and we had to talk about how Claudius manipulates Laertes. Which was actually quite a nice question, and went pretty good.
The talk in life and literature part wasn't as great. We get two unseen texts, one a transcript of a real-life conversation and the other an extract of talk in literature, and to my dismay, the second unseen text was a poem. Those really suck when you have to compare them to real talk. However, I think I did alright.
Overall, I'm feeling a strong B to a light A on this one, which is exactly what I need for English.

Tomorrow is history, which should be a piece of cake.

Concerts

Why is it that all the shows I really want to go to are always at the worst date for me?

Refused are doing a show in a London club in August, which is great because bands like Refused really shine in smaller venues and I'd love to go see the show. However, it's on the last day of the 2012 Olympics. That is the one evening that I would really wish to not go outside. Being outside after a big football match in the area finished is bad enough, but Olympics?
But it's okay, the band just reformed earlier this year and I'm sure there will be plenty of shows like this to come in the future.

However, following this, W.A.S.P. are starting their 30th anniversary tour in London this September, and it's going to be a really special show. A 2 hour set including a shortened version of The Crimson Idol album and all the stage theatrics you'd ever want from W.A.S.P.
The problem? It's on the Friday of my first week at university. So if I want to go, I have to either skip the first week or dish out a lot of money that I probably won't have on train tickets.

<_<

Today Should Be Fun

Posted by Cheshire Cat , in Daily Life Jun 07 2012 · 45 views

Going into school for 4-5 hours of English revision before my exam on Monday. Should be some quality Hamlet time.

And after that, I'll be going to the cinema with a couple of friends to see MIB III, which I'm really looking forward to, having been a fan of the first two since I was a kid.

Might also go down to HMV to pick up some new albums, if they have them. I really need The Hunt by Grand Magus. The only problem is that it's a long trip, as the one closest to me closed down.
