Anonymous Setting

Posted by Aderia on Nov 25 2012 - 10:06 PM

As far as I'm aware, the only way to switch from anonymous to public is by logging in/out. Is there a way that could be fixed, sort of like when the Archives logged people out? Is there a button or something that could be installed to switch from anon to non-anon while staying logged in?

While this isn't something that keeps me awake at night, pulling out my hair stressing over, it is something I think would be nice to see.

Well; the problem with the archive was slightly different, as it was a matter of the two cookies overlapping. The anon button, however, was on the log-in for both the archive, when it was the main forum, and here. I've seen an anon button on the settings of another forum type, but since it's not IPB, I don't know if it's possible here or not.

It would be interesting, but I could also see how it could get abused more often, though the extent of that I'm not sure, since you could just log out and in again anyway. =P

There's really nothing in the anon feature to be abused. I mean, logging out and in doesn't take very long, this just would make it a little easier.

True. I figured that was the case shortly after, and you definitely have a point. I would support it, though. I don't see myself using it that much, but there could be a time when I do.

After doing some research, this would require modifying the cookie while you're logged in, which would be nontrivial. For the amount of work to be done to add this, I'm just going to suggest people log out and log in.
