Shuckle has, overall, the highest defensive stats in the game, boasting 230 (yes, 230!) in both Defense and Special Defense. While this is indeed impressive, Shuckle is sadly held back by its measly HP stat of 20. Nonetheless, Shuckle can still be an effective tank, and has an intriguing movepool. Here's the first moveset:
Shuckle @ Leftovers
252 HP / 252 SpD / 4 Def
~ Knock Off
Pair this with a good Hippowdon and you're in business. Sandstorm gives Shuckle 821 Special Defense, meaning no one's going to get past it any time soon. Any Nasty Plotters who want to try will be Encored, then Toxiced to death, while having Shuckle run off with their items. Rest prevents status from stopping you, and having that same Hippowdon means you have a Pokemon to shield Shuckle from powerful physical hits. In addition, Sturdy means the occasional OHKO is stopped. Overall, only Seismic Toss/Night Shade is defeating Shuckle. Now here's Shuckle number two:
Shuckle @ Macho Brace
252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
~ Stone Edge
~ Power Trick
~ Gyro Ball
In conjunction with Trick Room, once all your opponent's physical Pokemon are out, this is rightfully scary. Power Trick lands Shuckle with 614 Attack, and Trick Room makes it one of, if not, the fastest Pokemon while it is active. Stone Edge and EQ give type coverage, while Gyro Ball becomes insanely powerful against anything remotely fast. Of course, Shuckle is in trouble if not all physical Pokemon are out, or if Trick Room ends at a crucial point.
Ballom's Rating: 4/5. A fantastic tank and good Trick Room user, Shuckle should be standard.
