When I logged into the archive, I was required to change my password because a hacking had compromised some accounts. I simply hit back and did not change my password. This does not appear on the main forums. The last hacking, as I recall, did not compromise any accounts. So, is this real? And does changing your archive password affect your password on the main forums?

Yes, it is real, because it was talking about the one that led to that huge downtime last year. When the forums were brought back up, it was advised to change your password. I think it was just the archives, though, which was kinda counter-intuitive, especially since it didn't change the password on the new forums at the same time; something a few people found out the hard way. =P
So should it get fixed or something?
It doesn't change the password in the new forums? Whew, thank goodness I didn't change the password then. =P Anyways, yeah, it's really annoying since you can't use the search feature or view anyone's profiles without logging in, and when you do it wants you to change your password and won't let you do anything until you do... Well, IIRC, someone had changed the password(And I think I did the same), and when it came time to switch a couple days later, they just couldn't log in. I had a couple problems myself at the time, but I realized the problem shortly after. I could be mis-remembering events, though; I tend to do that a lot...
Though, if you want to log in, just change it, and then change it back. Fixes it, and you can log in without having to remember a whole new password just for an archive.

Okay, that could work. Thanks.
I don't know why everyone is opposed to changing the password. I changed it, and it works fine.
The mandatory password change was a security feature we added to the old forums after many accounts were hacked. If I recall, it is set up to require your password to be changed once a year. As was mentioned, you can always change it back after you change it the first time, although that is less secure. We're not going to be changing this as there are still likely holes in the archive since it uses an older version of the software.
