Unfollow Status Option

First of all, this only matters to those who get notified when somebody replies to a status that you have also replied to.
 
Since I do have the above option set in my settings, I get notified, and I like that most of the time. Occasionally though, my notifications get overrun by people spam/pointlessly commenting off-topic or nonsense replies to statuses I replied to at some point. This gets annoying when I check my typically double-digit notifications and most of them are just pointless comments on a status, and not important, constructive comments or posts in topics I follow.
 
So I was thinking, if it were possible, an "Unfollow" button on statuses would be nice, so that I could click it and no longer get notified of replies once they get off topic and obnoxious.
